I'm torn between 3 and 3.5 for this one. I liked it and it is a good urban fantasy that doesn't really use or need a romantic subplot to keep you engaged. There's plenty of humour, action and the plot moves along pretty fast. I would have to say that the main character is a bit different than the standard UF BAMF heroine - the story is narrated in first person so you get a great sense of her and all her quirks (with more than a bit of OCD, prone to rambling on on different tangents) which can be quite amusing. She still kicks butt - and seems to have absolutely no qualms about killing (she saves her angst for other things). The other characters, with the exception of the ex-Navy Seal turned drag queen, seemed to not be as well developed and just sort of dropped off the radar until they were needed to tie together some plot points. Things move forward at a pretty fast pace - most of the time Raylene is just one step ahead of the "men in black", and getting herself in and out of traps and fights while she tries to unravel a government conspiracy to kidnap and experiment on vampires. A good read.
