A beautifully written account of a true English eccentric who was instrumental in saving a huge number of varieties of the Japanese national flower in the 20th century. Set alongside the cultural and historical significance of Sakura blossom in Japan, this is a wonderful book and very readable. I have been fascinated by Japan for a long time and was excited to see this book in store and couldn’t wait to read it. It was a fascinating read and I would recommend it for anyone interested in Japan or in botany.

And best of all, our very own Sakura garden, the Maxwell Cherry Garden in Telford Town Park is mentioned as one of the best places in the UK to view the blossom.
