Science could tell him that the ground was below his feet and the sky was above his head and the early light of day was upon his back. Roma wouldn't listen. To him, Juliette was the sun.

"We are so good at this. I think we should start a detective agency.” 

 “A missing persons agency, perhaps. I am not picky.”

So long as he had Marshall by his side, the two of them could face whatever was thrown their way. 

"I would reroute the train with my bare hands before I left you behind,” he said matter-of-factly. 

"Wooooow.” Marshall drew the exclamation long. When he propped his chin on his hand, his dark eyes were practically twinkling, light pouring from his smile. “You sound just like a real detective.”

"Damn it, Marshall,” he hissed, reaching for a cold spoon and pressing it to his neck. 

 Marshall was startled awake by the sensation of something cold thwacking him on the forehead. “Ah, shibal—” His eyes flew open, bewildered and groggy. Benedikt, or rather the fuzzy impression of Benedikt, was standing over him, holding what looked to be a metal spoon. “Ow!” Marshall complained. 

“Ow?” Benedikt echoed. He pointed to his neck.

He grinned. “I was wondering when you would notice that.” 

“By God”—Benedikt rolled up his sleeves—“I’m going to kill you.” 

“Nooooo, we’re trying to catch a murderer, not become one!” 

“Too late!” Benedikt clambered onto the bed, spoon raised. 

Marshall threw his head back and laughed, yanking his husband down and trying to avoid getting beaten to death by a spoon.

Marshall’s grip started to slide higher. Benedikt used his other leg to kick, and with a silent protest, Marshall was forced to release him. 

Arrested for public obscenity, Benedikt mouthed back in warning.

"Did you… use my name?” Marshall, meanwhile, leaned over to whisper to Benedikt.

Marshall grinned. “I like it very much, Mr. Sokov.”

Marshall and Juliette certainly hated missing their gossiping sessions

"Twenty-three years old and I could get a cramp from breathing wrong.”

 Benedikt blinked. He did the math in his head. “Mars, you’re twenty-four.” 

Without warning, Marshall dropped to his knees, trembling with the drama. “I’m aging!”

"God,” she said, wiping the spatter from her neck, “he was so annoying. Does he think safes are bulletproof?”

“Stop pleasing me so much!” Juliette yelled after him.

 “I can’t help it, you’re the love of my life!” Roma shouted back

Roma made a perplexed sound, thinking he had misheard her. “I beg your pardon?” 

“We’re too content with each other all the time,” she continued. “It’s unnatural.” 

A pause. Then Roma spluttered with laughter, his whole body shaking with the absurdity of her statement. Juliette pulled back to scowl at him, and he only laughed harder. “It is very much not,” he countered firmly when he had gotten ahold of himself. “The scales tipped too far when we were younger. This is a slow restoration of justice.”

"Good. I wouldn’t want to offend you by putting a new one over yours.” A wince. He was rather sensitive about the time he had thrown a knife at her. 

“Stop teasing,” he muttered. “I am very unhappy about each scar you pick up.”

“Roma?” she called. “Dearest husband of mine, I seek thy aid.” 

He appeared in the bedroom doorway, wearing an apron. “I am thine to command.”

 “I have an internal compass that centers on you instead of true north.”

Someone from above hauled him right off her, carelessly tossing his slumped body aside. “Christ, Juliette, you could have waited two minutes.” 

Her vision focused on her savior, framed by the morning sun. Roma had never looked so beautiful, even while he was glaring at her. She most definitely had blood on her lip when she grinned in return. “Stop looking so happy that you got beaten up.”

 Roma reached down, hauling her onto her feet with a strong hand

“You didn’t watch what was going on in enemy territory?” “I watched yours.” 

“I watched you. I didn’t care about what nonsense your territory was getting up to.”

“It’s Juliette Montagova.” She lifted her hand and waved her fingers, flashing her gold wedding ring while she continued onward and exited the living room. “I’m a married woman. Roma, come help me get the knives, would you?”

 In that moment, as Roma pushed off the wall and followed her obediently, he fell in love all over again

They finally got their happy ending 🫶😭🥹❤️

We asked and she gave! Miss Chloe’s outdone herself once again in these novellas with nothing but enough fluff that I literally could not stop smiling since reading the first page. This book gives us insight on what our favorite characters have been up to since the events that dissolved Shanghai’s notorious gangs into non-existence. They’re now living their lives how they’ve always wanted and are basically married now and are basically so goddamn sweet to each other like candy melting on your tongue I want to jump off a cliff. This will bridge the gap between FLF and Foul Heart Huntsman so is quite an important part of the story.

occasionally cheesy? yes. cute and fun and call it what you want as hell? also yes i loved this

OMG.

I have never been more invested into a series than this one right here. The world that Ms. Gong has created is so amazing... I will probably be rereading her work again and again, as if they were the last books on earth, making the rest of the books in my TBR list jealous...

This book is full of the witty banter that we've all come to love from the other books. It's full of the same action, suspense, and the same surprise twists...

But if you have not read These Violent Delights/Our Violent Ends, or Foul Lady Fortune, I caution you. This is meant to be read AFTER those. But hey, if you're into spoilers, then by all means! Read away!

domestic romajuliette and benmars ???? LIKE THAT’S ALL I’VE EVER WANTED IN LIFE ???? this was incredibly fluffy and yet at the same time still kept me on my toes. i was amazed at how connected everything was—and that’s also considering the events that took place in flf. which, quite frankly, only makes me much more excited with foul heart huntsman.

i honestly don’t know what else to say but like .. seeing both romajuliette and benmars happily living and loving each other as a married couple just hit a certain something in me. idk maybe because they’ve been fighting for their LIVES prior to their current situation so seeing them just be so Happy makes ME so happy and i’m just ///3

This was what i wanted and needed after reading our violent ends. I understand now why the spoon scene is the most unhinged Marshall and Benedikt scene. CANT WAIT FOR FOUL HEART HUNTSMAN

 because I knew the ending would make me sad. After

I won't lie, the second novella carried for me. I found the first one to be a bit of a drag though admittedly I wasn't super excited about Roma and Juliette being alive in the first place; I thought it took the emotional impact of the ending of OVE away. I can appreciate getting some extra content though! However, I thought the second novella was amazing. Crime solving husbands? I'll read that any time. I love a good little mystery and it was so nice to catch up with two of my favorite characters in this universe. Overall, a fun read to be the second to last installment in this universe and I hope to get my hands on the gorgeous physical copy soon!
