I liked it in the beginning especially the beginning of the series. But after while the plot of the story made me dislike the heroin and main character of the book which is not a very good idea of the author. It got to the point where i just couldnt read it anymore because i was no longer on the heroins side and it made me question the authors morals and if she thought that what she was writing was right. I think it sends of what is supposed to be a negative message and actions positive.

Zoey is dealing with some winter/holiday funk and depression. Having to keep so many things hidden to herself it really makes the reader sympathize with her at times. From missing her best friend to having yet another argument with her mother- Zoey really has that teen angst, but it is understandable at the same time. It is a good thing she has her grandmother that completely understands and loves her for who she is.

 She is also coming to the very serious and harsh reality that people are not all they seem to be upon first glance. Enemies become friends and vice versa.A lot of things happen in this one that leaves the reader staring at the book in shock. From deaths to surprises, a lot happens to keep a reader entertained and turning the page

Ok LOL so in Chosen, u kno dis book , Zoey and Heath imprint more, and Zoey and Erik are becoming some what closer but she is seeing Loren secretly. One day after Z has preformed the Dark Daughters ritual Erik went through a change into a full grown vampire. She was soo upset because she thought he was dieing. When Neferet came to the room and took Erik away for some special thing only grown vamps can do Loren came in a seduced Z into having sex with him. Later Erik ends up walking in and he flips out and walks away. (Oh and she and Loren imprints breaking Heaths and hers imprint) Z is so sad and crying so goes to Lorens room where she sees him and Neferet talking through the crack. Shes hears the over talking about how their plan worked to Get her friends mad at her and Erik to break up with her! :(so then she finds out Loren and neferet are a couple and planned to take Zoey down so she can be all alone and Vulnerable. so aphrodite being the only person standing by her now is faking to still be a vampire. She no longer has her make but still has her powers. Stevie Rea is no longer dead she is fully vampire but a red fledgling. Zoey is all alone now and she is walking to Dinner and something attacks her. later she tells Aphrodite and she tells tells zoey that she has two different visions of her dieing. the first one abt Something Devil like cutting off her head and in the second one shes sees her drowning..A new Boy comes to the school called Stark and him and Z have a thing. Later Some one killed professor Nolan and Loren so they think its the people of faith. Neferet wants to star and blood war wit humans. aaand Aphrodite no longer has the Earth infinity, becuz, it has returned to Stevie Rea. Anywayz Stevie became normal again (well not her old self but not dead) by Zoey casting a circle and getting her humanity back to her. (its hard to remember cause i read them long time ago like last year i think) so yea Zoey ends up getting her friends back and she tells them everything in the next book but some in this one. Erik now teaches the Drama class since Nolan was murdered. Z used her powers on Neferet and Erik seen and herd their fight. He now knows how evil Neferet really is. The group finds out about Stevie Rea story about being dead and that stuff. Aphrodite and Zoey are good friends now but don't act like it in front of people. But there sticking together cause Neferet can read their minds like she can everyone else.

Action-packed. Not really.
Characters are annoying me to death.

           What the absolute fuck did I just read?

There are so many things wrong with this book. Let’s get started:

Zoe is a horrible MC. Probably one of the absolute worst, most hypocritical, whiny characters I’ve ever had to read about. I hate that these books are from her perspective. Why should we, as an audience, feel bad for her? Her and all her shitty friends spent the first 2 books bashing Aphrodite for being a “ho-bag,” but Zoey was dating 3 guys in this book!! One of them was a teacher! Speaking of, can we touch on that for a second? I know eventually Loren turned out to be a bad guy, but is no one else completely skeeved that a TEACHER writes these books and decided a love triangle that included a teacher and a student was a good idea?? What the hell.

Zoey demonized Aphrodite throughout the series so far for, what, liking sex? Please, get over yourself. And Erik is supposed to be the asshole by the end because he calls Zoey a slut for lying and cheating? He had every right to be mad and to call her on her bullshit! I absolutely do not blame him at all.

Aphrodite is the only decent character in the book with any real character growth so far. Not a single other character is showing any real growth, but we’re supposed to see her as the bad guy? No thanks. I’m good.

I’ll paste a note I’d made when getting to the end of this book too:

“Being chosen of our Goddess is as much pain as it is privilege”
You’re not in pain because you’re Chosen. You’re in pain because you’re a horrible person?? Your friends didn’t turn on you because of your power or status but because you lied and manipulated them? I hate you, Zoey.

Oh! And not to mention that Zoey maybe KILLED 2 people, but we’re just gonna gloss right over that… HUH?!

I wish I could say I’m feed up with this series and stop reading it, but sadly I can’t...

There were so so so many things that had me wanting to slap Zoey in the face, make her see reason, but up the last moment she kept fucking up again and again.

That hoe-stuff got me wanting to throw the book through the wall.( I couldn’t because the book is from the library) “I’m not a hoe” “omg I’m becoming a hoe” blah blah... yes Zoey we can read you slowly becoming a slut, and you seriously deserve all the shit you got into... 

All and all the story is highly addictive, the plot thickens. I still have faith in Zoey (although she was so annoying af). Even if I consider this book was almost a waste of time, I cannot wait for the 4th book. I’ll probably start it tomorrow.

If we're getting technical, it may be more like a 3.8 rating. Not quite a 4 star. Definitely higher than the other books: I liked it a lot more than both Marked and Betrayed. I definitely enjoyed it. Chosen felt like it was a lot more hectic, eventful and even more descriptive than the other installments. This was definitely a read in one sitting book and I was absolutely engrossed with it this time around. I honestly felt like I was being compelled to read more, as I couldn't look away.

You can tell this was when the plotline was really picking up and things TRULY started happening. 

Plus, the writing was getting stronger at this point in the series from all angles. The characters were starting to come into their own. World-building was expanding. Everything was higher stakes and a lot of tension. Slang was used a little (not a lot) less. In short? It was easier for me to tune out the more frustrating/problematic moments in the narration/dialogue.

I think my only complaints for Chosen were the same ones I had for the previous two books in the series: a lot of ignorance and slut-shaming; a lot of questionable descriptions of people of colour, not great descriptions of gay characters, too. The series itself is diverse, but the way that the diversity is approached in the narration is not a good look. A lot of these things are moreso nods to their time and that era in YA, so I'm a little more forgiving towards that. 

Still, it brings down the experience exponentially for obvious reasons. Oh! And the fact that Zoey says poopie. All. The. Damn. Time.

That being said, I really enjoyed Chosen a lot more than I expected. This time around, I noticed how much more uncomfortable the Zoey/Loren relationship made me. It kind of gets glossed over, too, as the series goes. I mean, hello? He groomed Zoey; had sex/imprinted with her because Neferet asked him to isolate her from her friends. The poor girl would go on to feel like pure hell from this and it is just... sad.

Back then, it was more unsettling and scandalous to me; nowadays it's just plain gross. Neferet is one evil lady and we all know this, but it's still very uncomfortable to read about. Especially as an adult. It definitely leads Zoey down a different path than expected; causing tension with her friends, breaking both Erik and Heath's hearts in the process (of course, she breaks her own heart, too, which is just as bad) and a lot of unnecessary plot-twists considering Loren's demise by the end of Chosen. 

For the record, I'm not especially fond of any of Zoey's love interests as an adult. Or Zoey. At least, in this installment. It makes me wonder how I'll be feeling about Stark in the next books. Heath doesn't get that no means no/pushes at Zoey to be in a relationship with him. Erik slut-shames the hell out of, um, every girl pretty much. Loren is a teacher and lurks around underage girls. I mean, we've got a group of winners here, right? 

Enough negatives. I really, really, really liked reading this one. It felt so much more in depth than the first two books. This is what the series was meant to be. A lot of Chosen was a balancing act, which I liked. I liked, too, that this showcased the strength of friendships (Aphrodite and Zoey, Zoey and Stevie Rae, etc) but that it also shows the weaknesses and cracks in the surface of friendships.

It tackles secrets in a fairly realistic way--from the point of them eating at Zoey, as she is being used, or the effects they have on loved ones.

Dealing with Zoey's relationship drama was kind of the central arch throughout House of Night, but especially in Chosen--there's a lot of tension between her and her family, and then the Nerd Herd at various points, her struggling with Stevie Rae's lack of humanity/trying to get it back, the ongoing feud she has with Neferet, etc. 

But then it had its brighter points. 

Namely, Zoey's growing friendship with Aphrodite. I love them. I feel like, to a degree, this budding friendship is developed in a much more believable way than any other connection in the series. They went from hatred and jealousy, to hesitance and respect, to trust and genuine friendship. Nothing was instant about it and it just felt very much so true to life, even in all its paranormal fantasy elements.

Obviously: I loved seeing Aphrodite stand up for Zoey towards the end of the novel, against Erik's not entirely unwarranted hostility. "You do not want to piss me off anymore,"she said. "You claim to care so much for Zoey, but you've turned on her like a mangy-ass dog because she hurt your little ego."

(Seriously, though, Aphrodite is the best and I would die for her.)

Zoey and Aphrodite are both very different types of people but their strengths and their hearts seem similar in a lot of ways. I think Chosen, at its core, was at its best when it approached the respect that had formed between these two, as well as Zoey and Stevie Rae's friendship. 

Of course, my favourite parts of the story are in the final quarter. 

Seeing Zoey lose nearly all of her friends is really not fun in context/at the time, but I think it is really were the series starts to pick up and in the end it makes the Nerd Herd's bond stronger. Erik going through the change and becoming a vampyre is another highlight. (Seeing Zoey think he was dying, like Stevie Rae, was painful.) Aphrodite sacrificing herself, and in the end, her fledgling status, for Stevie Rae. Stevie Rae's humanity returning. 

That being said, this was the strongest installment yet and I'm definitely looking forward to the continued story-telling, world-building and plot twists.
