Took me a while to get into it but once I did I enjoyed it. Witty, funny (not lol but cute), better story than it seemed at the beginning.

For two sworn enemies, anything can happen during the Hawaiian trip of a lifetime—maybe even love—in this romantic comedy from the New York Times bestselling authors of Roomies.

Olive Torres is used to being the unlucky twin: from inexplicable mishaps to a recent layoff, her life seems to be almost comically jinxed. By contrast, her sister Ami is an eternal champion...she even managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a slew of contests. Unfortunately for Olive, the only thing worse than constant bad luck is having to spend the wedding day with the best man (and her nemesis), Ethan Thomas.

Olive braces herself for wedding hell, determined to put on a brave face, but when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. Suddenly there’s a free honeymoon up for grabs, and Olive will be damned if Ethan gets to enjoy paradise solo.

Agreeing to a temporary truce, the pair head for Maui. After all, ten days of bliss is worth having to assume the role of loving newlyweds, right? But the weird thing is...Olive doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, the more she pretends to be the luckiest woman alive, the more it feels like she might be.

With Christina Lauren’s “uniquely hilarious and touching voice” (Entertainment Weekly), The Unhoneymooners is a romance for anyone who has ever felt unlucky in love.

this is billed as a cheesy romance, and honestly it is. but the writing is so good in places it can be read by people who have higher expectations from their reading than i do. honestly, it's a great beach read if you want a story about a woman not only finding love, but also understanding herself and her position in her world after so many disappointments in life.

Olive is always unlucky; her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. About to marry her dream man, her entire wedding has been fully paid for by winning a series of competitions. Meanwhile, Olive is forced to play nice with her sworn enemy: the best man, Ethan. But Olive's luck may be on the turn . . . When the entire wedding party - except for Olive and Ethan - gets food poisoning, there's an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs. Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free holiday, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him threatens to spiral out of control. Forced to play loving newlyweds, she and Ethan find themselves in much closer proximity than they ever expected . . . The problem is that soon, Olive finds that maybe she doesn't mind pretending. In fact, she's beginning to feel kind of . . . lucky.

I hated how everyone saw Olive as a pessimist and always “seeing the worst in everyone” when clearly she had a gut feeling about Dane. Anyways, I did enjoy this book! I loved reading Olive and Ethan’s story!

It was cute enough and I’m not upset that I read it haha. Ethan does end up being a dick, and I found it frustrating the way he treated Olive. At the same time tho if I was in his position maybe I would also want to trust my brother first? Anytime they fought though I found him to be really unreasonable. Which kind of ruins the second book because they get married 😂

This was such a fun cute book. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I ended up liking it. I totally want to go re-read it again right now. It's just so fun.

As far as these types of books go pretty par for the course but I would say a little below average. It's simple and digestible. The banter between Ethan and Olive was cute. I felt like the book was better at portraying how in love Ethan was than it was with Olive even though everything but the epilogue is in her POV. A few things that annoyed me and took this book from possibly four stars to 3: 1)it is weird for an identical twin to date the brother of her twin sister's husband. period. 2) Olive and the book are a tinge fatphobic. She talks about her weight a lot and she is pretty ashamed. While I could excuse this as a part of her character since characters need flaws the book really subtly doubles down on the fatphobia by causing Olive to lose weight as soon as her life starts improving a pretty common narrative fatphobic hack. Not my fave. 3) what are the chances you see 2 people you know in a random resort in Hawaii. 4) she really didn't need to lie to her boss. yes in the moment it made sense but she could've just followed up and explained the situation at dinner without just tricking him. It what world does it make sense to tell your boss you're married when you're not. there was no exit strategy. I feel like the avg person wold understand not letting a trip go to waste but lying about being married is weird. 5) while lying about being married is weird being fired for it is even weirder. Also he specifically notes that she signed a morality clause BUT in the book she signs the paper work after the trip technically she wasn't even hired yet or at least contractual liable until after she returned. I think she could've sued him lol or at least negotiated being able to stay based off of that. 6) i don't like that Ethan and Amy use Olive's supposed negative outlook to dismiss her accusations. She may be negative but she doesn't need to lie. The least either of them could've done is take it seriously and not gaslight her. Ethan stepped wayyyy out of line saying she was just jealous of her sister and honestly didn't grovel enough for that IMO. Overall pretty cute. Good audiobook listen. Def not my fave romance tho.
