Orpheus
An opera about the musician Orpheus descending to the underworld to rescue his wife, Euridice, after she dies from a snake bite. The gods allow him to bring her back on the condition that he does not look at her until they are safely on Earth. In a moment of desperation or doubt, he breaks the rule, she dies again, but the goddess Amor intervenes and restores both their lives, leading to a joyful celebration of love.
