** spoiler alert ** The premise of this book was very intriguing. Suppose all the wars throughout history were ways to eliminate an excess of young men in order to bring down crime and tighten the labor market. Darkly fascinating. The author’s development of this idea had young men rising up to slaughter those in power to reinvent a new order, dividing the US into 3 lands: Caucasia, Blacktopia and Gaysia where hetero whites, hetero blacks and gays of either race were to reside, respectively. The funniest bit was how interracial hetero couples had to pretend to be gay so they could live near each other in Gaysia, meeting in public bathrooms and underground clubs as gays have had to for much of history. Overall, I found it more disturbingly Handmaid’s Tale than satirical.

Clever There are some wonderful lines and overall the sarcasm is fun. It got a little too fantastical for taste, but it was entertaining.
