a very short read - a staff at the bookstore i got this from said that claire keegan excels in short fiction, and they were right. concise and ghibli-like in a bit of a depressing way, about the reality of men not being as accommodating or empathetic. is that a bad thing? where are its roots? the “punchline” of this sub-50 page story comes suddenly to a man, but it is plain to a woman. she sees it coming, and knows its end before he does.

Clara expertly weaves complex emotions into such a brief narrative, which made a profound impact on me, even though it took less than an hour to finish. I am not into romance too but this one… chief’s kiss!
