It only took four years for the world to fall apart. Now the last member of my family has died, and I'm forced to travel across what's left of three states to find the only people I know left alive. Last Light

This was a quick read but is not anything special. 

Story moves quickly. I like the apocalypse setting.

The writing is unimaginative and bland. There's no depth in any of the descriptions of character or settings. It feels very YA. 

It does not feel like there are any stakes in the story. Our characters are trying to get somewhere but it does not ever feel like there's much urgency.

The action sequences (or scenes that could have action) are over in a heartbeat. This was sold to me as an apocalypse story but it doesn't feel like there's stakes or danger that I can invest in as the reader.

Our FMC is kind of boring and clingy. She's not a compelling character and there's this emphasis on her being small and not wearing a bra ever and she actually likes not wearing one (despite the fact she's constantly on the move)? I had to double check to see if the author was a woman because it felt like how a man would write a young FMC.

I don't really care for the romance. Feels stale and forced.

This book was really good. I loved Travis. He was such a big gruff softie. It was such a cute romance, intermingled with an interesting plot/atmosphere of a post-apocalypse Earth. The only thing I hated was the miscommunication between Travis and Layne because it was so obvious they loved each other, but they were holding back for stupid reasons. I wonder what the series that is based in this world will be like, and if we'll get a Mack romance. Overall, not the best book ever, but it is an absolutely great book.
