I loved this series as a kid and rereading it as an adult is definitely fun. I love the concept and that it isn’t 60 volumes long. Plus, CLAMP’s art was always lovely. I’m enjoying my reread of the series, but I do think that the first volume is just covering the basics of how Angelic Layer really works.

The plot definitely picks up a little, though not all that dramatically. The art has made a definite improvement overall and the characters are beginning to mesh better and better with each other. While it's still very much geared toward children, I still think the story is delightful and cute, though repetitive.

The plot has definitely begun picking up from the first volume, which basically breaks the main character into the game and teaches both her and us as the readers how Angelic Layer is played. In this volume, the fighting really begins and Misaki has to really think about how to defeat her opponents, all of whom use a variety of different techniques she has yet to face.

Pretty much the same as the last review for Volume 3, I think that the story is cute and adorable but ultimately geared toward children and a little repetitive. I love the character designs for the Angels and Humans alike.

Cute!
