A couple of months ago this cover appeared on my twitter feed and I knew I just had to have it. Previously a student of classical reception, anything that brings the ancient world to modern day utterly fascinates me.

Also the fact it was connected (not just in name) to Delphi, one of my favourite places I've ever visited, well that meant I needed it even more. Thankfully my prayers were answered and I devoured this book.

#Delphi by @poetclare is a clever, unique, honest delve into the pandemic. It follows the story of a family as they alter their lives like so many of us did. The fact it's set in the UK also added to the relatable aspect to it as I got all the references and it sent chills down my spine. What makes this different to other pandemic novels is the prophecies entwined and the idea of future. The protagonist is fascinated with all types of prophecy from ancient women at Delphi to phoning up a woman who reads her her tarot cards. She explores the different types of predictions from dreams to I Ching.

It's utterly fascinating to read and also experience the characters deep delve into it. The emotions run rampant throughout as each member of the family deals with the virus differently and some harrowing things take place. It's so real and honest as you know many will have experienced at least one aspect in the pandemic.

I absolutely devoured this beautiful unique little book. I've underlined so many gorgeous passages and it makes me want to return to my classics studies and learn more. This book is stunningly written and will connect to everyone as we've all been through this. It’s darkly funny, emotional, and honest in a way that leaves you breathless at the end.
