I read this book years ago and, after giving it my best, I've decided to stop reading these consecutively as these books make me grind my teeth. I'm a big sci-fi reader, but the level you need to suspend your disbelief to in these books drives me a little crazy. I initially read this book when I was in middle school, maybe high school, and I enjoyed it. I read it primarily because the movie was so damn good.

It was far better than the book, which really is a pity to say. The fact that the book has so many strange plots colliding into one book was a little overwhelming and the characters are a little flat in general. Giordino getting married at the end of the book came out of no where for me. And, as I've come to realize by reading the first books in the series, Dirk Pitt is a jack of all trades and kind of a dick. Why women flock to him confounds me.

If you're looking at reading the book because you liked the movie, spare yourself. It's not worth it.
