Run Riot

We're at like a 2.5/3 stars because I wanted to like the book. I just finished two pretty good series in this genre and was hoping to make it a third!

I might read the second one out of spite, to see if my reading the first 330+ pages has payoff since the ending was intriguing. 

I would also like to preface this review with the fact that I am normally a "here for the vibes" reader especially when it comes to KU/RH books. Also it being a RH and in the first book you only get to really meet 1 of the group is... unfortunate. 

This book was both too slow and too fast? The stakes are high and yet you aren't given a lot of the information that you need to make it impactful to you as a reader. The religious/family trauma concept in this fantasy setting is interesting - but you're sitting there, book in hand, wondering why these characters are making any of these choices. 

The only characters that have any flesh to them are the two main characters and everyone else is so flat. Which is a shame because some of them are interesting! I'd love to have had more time spent on the side friendships, family dynamics, and character development for them! 

I'm almost thinking that if this book was single POV instead of split then it would have made it way more enjoyable, or a main POV and a sprinkle of the male MC's POV every once in a while. It took 270+ for the main character to stand up for herself even a smidgen. Main characters with barely any backbone make it so frustrating to be inside their heads.

This book deserves ALL the stars. Honestly. I can't even. 

This book is EVERYTHING I needed right now. The plot was very engaging, the setting was brilliant, the character are *chef's kiss*, and the steam is fiiiire. 

Honestly the love and chemistry between Riot and Grace is everything. I just love how perfect they are for each other. They are both helping each other see their own self worth. That they MATTER. That they are not broken, that there's nothing wrong with them. 

I love everything about this book.

I didn't mention the other guys cause that's *spoilery* lol
