I wanna give it lower stars sometimes because most of the time I am so confused >,< Like I feel happy because the story is good then I feel ashkjhfjksdsjggdg because I do not understand then the cycle goes on :/ nice retelling though but in the end, I did not really understand 30% of it :/

Diving head first in The Sinister Fairy Tales Collection, this retelling of Anastasia is my first read in the series and it was better than I had anticipated. It had all the great elements that made it a classic with an added dark romance, murder and other triggering topics. This new to me author kept me engaged with the characters and instant page turner storyline. Alongside plot twists and turns throughout had me on the edge of my seat and the tense drama that unfolded got me going oh shit a few times. Though there are praises for this novel, there were notable failings with this retelling that could've been edited or tweaked to win my complete favor. First example, the pace and length. The long never ending plot dragged on and on, and there were times during the course of my read I found myself checking to see if I even made a dent. The slow pace made me feel like I wasn't really going anywhere and that put a damper in my reading experience. Lastly, though more of a personal preference, I wished the author included a tad bit more detail about Alexandra Romanov family and her relationship with them After everything, I would still highly encourage readers to pick this up and take a peek at what this author has to offer with this classic retelling of Anastasia.
