Bound By The Past

Cora Reilly2020
DanteMy life's a tale of betrayal.I killed so many because they betrayed our cause, because they betrayed the Outfit.A hypocrite. A liar. A murderer. That's what I am.Five times I betrayed the Outfit. With my blood I made a vow to our cause, swore my life to it, promised to put the Outfit first. Above all else.Five times I chose a woman over the good of the Outfit. I betrayed my father. My vow. My men. You reap what you sow.Would my betrayals destroy everything I swore to protect?ValentinaOn our wedding day I made a vow to stand by Dante's side. In good and in bad times. To love him through it all.Growing up in the mafia, I knew the challenges in our life would be numerous. I never expected them to tear at the very base of our family, of our existence.

5 Stars! Hi BookLovers, Didn’t I tell you guys that how much I love Dante Cavallaro? Well—sorry I might have to tell you again that I really really LOVE him ❤️💜 I love his cold mask, his character. At first It was to understand his character when we read it through Val Pov’s but then when the author gave us a glimpse of his pov it make me understand more and more. I hope there’s a book about Samuel’s and Bibiana and the Outfits lawyer. I love Mafia Romances like this. It’s not just about the love with their partner but about the loyalty and family. Highly Recommended :)

I have not read a more useless book. As a fan of Cora Reilly, I can say I'm totally disappointed in this book and I feel like lately she's just writing books to have something to sell. Quality is dropping a lot.

Am I the only one who doesn't really appreciate when you're listening the a side of a plot line that it's really not focused on the characters in the book? The first part of this book was interesting, to know more about Dante's past and even when you reach the whole marriage with Valentina part, it's not bad since it doesn't drag too much. (view spoiler)[But when the whole Remo and Serafina thing happens? I just wanted to know what was happening with them and not really what was happening in the Outfit. It dragged so much…. and it made me not enjoy this book as much as the others. (hide spoiler)] I was also not the biggest fan of Dante before and even though it's a bit better... it's so infuriating that he just forgives everyone hahaha I know there's a series about the Camorra and I'm sure some of the events in this book are also describe there and I'm looking forward to that.

Well, I didn't really like the first book of Valentina and Dante I didn't need to read the entirety of their relationship again but from Dante's point of view... The 3 stars are for the new plotlines that have been introduced! It was a bit too much to relive again Seraphina and Remo's storyline from the point of view of the Outfit but it introduces new things. Like the deal bargain of marriage for Danillo and Samuel, I already pity the girls especially Emma reading from her point of view will be painful for sure. What is interesting is also the Outfit trying new things by getting closer to politicians will see how it goes. Is it just I or something will happen between Anna and Santiano I think this book hinted at it or maybe I'm out of it.

i mean was this book really necessary?? when i heard we were getting a second book on dante and valentina i thought things were gonna pick up after we left off in twisted pride, but no, i guess we needed to have 50% of the book dedicated to recapping everything we've already read several times throughout the born in blood mafia chronicles but from dante's pov. wasn't it better to just have dante's pov in bound by duty and be done with it? i've noticed that's something cora reilly does, she repeats the exact same events SEVERAL times in different books but from different pov's, and i don't know about you, but it really puts me off having to read the exact same plotlines over and over again. things picked up after the half-way mark, and it was, coincidentally, when the falcones entered the stage. again, repetition of the events from twisted pride, nothing new to see here except for seeing dante not knowing what the hell to do when confronted with any kind of problems in the outfit. at this point i'm asking myself, does dante even know how to be a capo at all?? every single thing that happens in his territory he's unable to deal with or to find a solution to, instead, he just waits until the whole thing gets resolved in some way where he doesn't have to make any decisions at all. let's see: * dante throwing anyone under the bus so long as his precious daughter never gets an arranged marriage. he literally could not care less about giving away other people's daughters (literally his own nieces) just as long as his family was not touched. so, does he care about the outfit or only about his family? if he cares so much about his daughter not being in an arranged marriage then why the hell does he not make this tradition stop? or is it because he just does not give a flying fuck about other girls, just his anna? and just like that, there were other examples where i saw his double standards and i ain't fucking with that. * every scuderi leaving the outfit for the famiglia. i mean, if every single person started defecting from your mafia family for another i'd be concerned about WHY they keep doing that and try to change that. but we all know dante did absolutely nothing to try to introduce changes in the ways of the outfit. * valentina's brother defecting because he wanted to marry an asian woman and of course that's frowned upon in the outfit. i mean dante, can you even change ANYTHING about your mobster family's medieval mindset???? is that too much to ask?? * the whole thing with rocco and dante's lack of caring about what the hell happened to fabiano. like, it's not just any soldier that went missing it was the teenage SON of your consigliere, potentially your FUTURE consigliere, that disappeared from thin air and you don't even look for him or investigate what happened to him??? * serafina gets kidnapped by the camorra, and dante never ONCE had a plan on what the hell to do to get her back. just hope for the best and expect remo to hand fina over eventually. yeah, i felt for him a lot of the times that i mentioned above, but honey, if you can't deal with the problems of running a goddamn mafia family then maybe you're not fit to be the leader at all. i think leonas is gonna be leagues better than his father ever was, #sorrynotsorry. overall, dante is my least favorite capo because i genuinely think he's not even fit to rule a single block of a neighborhood and y'all can come for me, but the facts remain true and so far, every hurdle trown his way he's been unable to deal with.

English Honestly at first I thought that this book was very unnecessary apart that I hate Dante but to my surprise I did not dislike the book, although it was unnecessary I definitely feel that it serves to end the series to see the point of view of The Outfit, also to see the future of the new generations. I will start with the person of focus Dante, my opinion changed a lot but not much, I liked how he let go of the past and allowed himself to enjoy life with his family, on the other hand Valentina is still a queen there is not much to say about her, but now Leonas I loved him I can see how different he is from Dante and I really like how he defended his friends, and Anna also feels like she's a queen so I'm excited for her book. Now if you haven't read Cora's books this is a SPOILER. (view spoiler)[Bibi finally had her happy ending I loved it, with Danilo I have a love-hate relationship because I hate how it was with serafina like he became somewhat obsessive and seeing how he will treat Sofia I don’t like it, but I like how he cares for his sister because a very important person to me is in the same situation as her so It touched one of my weak points although I hate the agreement he made with Samuel, it just seemed silly and somewhat problematic because no one wants or agrees but they don't have a choice, and I don't know how I feel with Samuel, I don't love him but I don't hate him so he better respect Emma, oh and I still hate Fina's parents, fin. (hide spoiler)] I recommend the book to those who love Dante and of course those who want to see an "end" of the series, although I don’t feel that it is necessary I enjoy it and it is not very strong so anyone can read it.

Definitely more on the plot-heavy side, and I'm glad the characters were Dante and Val - absolutely the couple that can handle some plot around them (said affectionately, with all the love I have for the NY Famiglia and their twisted love stories). This whole series has been a wild ride, and each book has had a different feel to it, and though sometimes I think this is its own kind of Stockholm syndrome, I did greatly enjoy almost all of the books, and I might take the plunge into the spin-off series at a later date.
