That was a WILD ride! At times, this read like it was written by a teenager who wante to put all the most subversive things in a novel. It was definitely not on par with Jar of Hearts, but the perspectives were original and the twist was really good. I loved Morris' character and he is the only reason I didn't DNF around 30% in, Sheila's character was just too unlikeable and Ethan's extremely frustrating to follow. But parts were really fun, I'm still on the fence about reading the sequel though.

While I usually really enjoy readings Hillier’s work, this one just didn’t effect me in the same way that it seems to have with other people. As with many novels I read lately, the ending seemed too quick, too easy, too rushed. There was tons of struggle in the middle, but it just abruptly ended and that always bothers me, because life is never that simple. Also, in a thriller, I like to be kept guessing. Instead of me, the reader, not knowing what is going on, it was the characters, and I don’t like knowing exactly what’s happening throughout the entire story and just waiting for everyone else to figure things out. If that makes any sense. The pace kept me reading, as well as the good writing skills of the author. It kept me entertained and I didn’t feel the urge to DNF, but I have no interest in continuing the rest of the series.

I gave this a three stars, because although it was just meh for me, it was also not a dnf, and I still do recommend giving this a read as everyones tastes and expectations are unique!

I could hardly put this book down! Very captivating story, and the twist at the end was shocking but made sense after reviewing the behavior of all the characters. 

I enjoyed the flow of information, all of the character reflections were timed well, and were true nature. Very creepy / plausable story.

If I hadn’t known the author, I would’ve thought this book was written by a man based on the way these men (good characters that we’re supposed to love) talked about women. Like the amount of comments these men made on women’s appearance and tight clothing as if they legitimately can’t meet a woman without thinking about them sexually. 

And even a woman commenting on how women dress “provocatively” for “men’s validation”. And a grown men looking at a twenty-something college girl wearing tight clothing and wondering how are professors supposed to resist temptation???

If these comments were made by the antagonist and meant to be seen as wrong okay but they’re not. They’re made by characters we’re supposed to root for and these comments are seen as normal and almost as if they’re meant to be funny. 

And oh don’t forget all the comments on how it’s a normal thing for men to have the temptation to cheat on their wives???? Hahahahahah hilarious, right????? It’s written like it’s just the way men are like that typical joke of “you’re getting married??? ahahaha good luck your life will be over ahahahaha”. Like wtf it was too much and I stopped reading at like 70% and skipped to the ending just to see how it ended but yeah ugh
