Holy. Woah! I loved this book! That wasn’t a surprise, but this book... I truly think this is some of Tijan’s best.
Bren is incredible. She’s strong, and brave, and vulnerable. She could be anyone.
Cross is too sweet. I didn’t think anyone could top Mason Kade, but damn he comes close.
I’m not sure if I knew this was a Fallen Crest spin off, but I loved that it was. I loved getting to see the other side of the coin. Crew is different than Fallen Crest. This crew is unapologetic for who they are, and they pull all the punches they need to. It’s straight up and convoluted and it’s great. You know where you stand.
I also loved the first sex scene. I don’t remember Tijan writing a more explicit one, and I loved it.
I truly believe this is some of her best writing, I tabbed the heck out it and have more highlights than I can count. You need this book in your life, you need this crew in your life!

This review was a little hard to write, I’m not going to lie. Just like this book was a little hard to read. 

For the first time in days, weeks, months, I came up with excuses to not read a book. Instead of reading, I cleaned my room… I re-organized my bookcases… I put away my desk supplies to finish moving into my room. I found any excuse I could to not read this book. 

It was just too good. I didn’t want to reach the end of this novel because I knew I would be disappointed that it ended. Disappointed that I would have to wait another whole year before the second book gets released. I found excuses to do random tasks because I wanted to take my time with this novel, I wanted to read Crew as slowly as possible. 

Reasons Crew Rocked:
1. Bren is a bad*ss
Yah this is totally true. Bren is one of those cutthroat female characters that you root for in novels but would be totally scared of in real life. She carries this pocket knife around and isn’t scared to use, and she does use it a couple of different times in Crew on a couple of different people. Total bad*ss. 

2. Cross is Crush worthy!
Let’s talk about Cross because I’m a little obsessed. You see, this guy is crush worthy because he has all the classic book boyfriend characteristics. He is smoking hot – at least according to the novel’s description and my imagination, protective of Bren, and isn’t afraid to let Bren do the talking – unique to Cross? Basically he’s the guy we all want but don’t get in real life – sigh. But seriously this dude is freaking hot and deserves some recognition for how great he is in this novel. 

3. The romance builds… and then explodes… as does the storyline
Okay, let’s be completely honest, this is a Tijan book. That means two things usually: (1) the romance is going to be hawt and, (2) some scary and crazy things are going to go down. It’s just a matter of time and fact. So if you weren’t expecting things to escalate past a 1000% – well are you even prepared to read this novel? 

Seriously this book was explosive and the things that go down have me craving – seriously craving – the next book. I swear I’ve reverted back to a 5 year old and the only thing I can say is “why not now” and “how about now”. Annoying, I know. So be prepared yourself to revert back to your early years after reading Crew because you can’t just comprehend that the book is over and the next one doesn’t release for a year. 

All in all – this book rocked my socks! Although I expect nothing less from Tijan, it’s always nice when an author lives up to expectations. So go out and grab yourself a copy because this book is definitely worth it.

I don't normally write a review about a middle of the road book because when you feel so meh about something what do you write about? 

I would say that the three star rating is due to being left wanting. 

The characters lacked depth, Bren was the most developed but even she was a little stunted. She was angsty, emotionally detached and angry and there was never really any reprieve from that, and no real growth of her character. I think that we are supposed to feel like she had some kind of "aha moment" of self acceptance and what not but it never really felt that way for me. I felt she ended very much where she started. There is no character building with pretty much any other character. Even Cross the love interest is an unknown. The only thing I took away from him is that he is the silent and broody type, protective of Bren (although you don't know why) and in theory loves his sister (although there is zero interaction between them).

Everything in this book is just supposed to be accepted as is. There is no explanation as to why things are the way they are, the development of the crews and why they are needed, the dynamic of the characters and why they act the way they do. If the book is going to be a series the first book should set the stage. Introduce us and build interest so that there is some kind of draw to return. I have to want to come back, see the characters again, wonder what's happening with them and feel a connection. 

Lastly - I kind of felt like if Disney had gangs it would be Crew and I probably would have rated higher if this would have taken a step in either direction, like back up a little and just have bad home life angst mixed with the only person you can rely on love story or step forward and add a little more grit, be a little more controversial and go there, delve into the gangs and don't sugar coat the violence. Wavering in between feels like a lack of commitment and as I said earlier really left me wanting.
