Wow. First impression: Oh no! No another angel book! I've read books about angels before but they're always awkward and I never really loved them. What is different about this book is that Clara knows she is an angel and what it entails, there's no finding about being an angel or a hot fallen angel she falls in love with! She IS the angel and she knows it! Unearthly made me swoon with th its amazing characters and I fell in love with them and can't believe I have to wait for its sequel! Its a bit confusing, especially by the ending, but it's the characters same confusion by adapting to the situation, but its the first in he series so we can wait for it to be resolved in future books. Clara, although she has known she is an angel for a while, is still adapting and her mother is not very forthcoming with answers about her new identity, so she still learning. But I did believe her as a character, Clara's actions are what a normal person would do in her situation. Overall, Unearthly is amazing, it surprised me and everyone should read it! It has cute angels, swoony guys and you won't be disappointed.

I actually already reviewed this series but decided to take it down because I don't think I really expressed how much I LOVED this book, to this day. It starts off with Clara, a (I'm pretty sure) 16-year-old girl. But not just a normal girl ohhh no! She's quarter angel. She gets this vision that all angels are supposed to have once in their life, a purpose her mother (half angel) calls it. In the vision, something happens (I'm not going to tell you) and she encounters a boy. Her mother tells Clara that she has to move to this new place and new school to find the boy that’s in her vision. So here she is, in a new town, new school all for this one boy, she THINKS she needs to save. My thoughts at first were like.. uh.. That’s a little extreme don't you think? But then I just ignored that stupid thought and kept reading. After that, it began to connect and make a whole lot of sense! She meets the mysterious boy but just like every boy that is a possible love interest, he's incredibly hot! So that leads us to her being all shy and smitten with him. Now I will say one thing, there is a love triangle in this book. But THANK THE LORD, Cynthia Hand did NOT make it as bad and annoying as other love triangles out there... Which leads me to ....... Tucker! Gahhh I was Team Tucker since the fricking beginning! As soon as we get introduced to the cute farmer boy, I knew! And I hope if you HAVE read this book, you agree with me! If you haven't then please for the love of god read it :) This book keeps you interested the whole time! It's incredible!!

I feel like I'm going to love this... ........ The story started out perfect, only all the fancy perfectness of the high school kids is a little stupid, kinda old style…we’re grown up now,we know not every one is perfect…. OMG,I love this book it’s amazing. I hate Tucker, there ,I said it. I don’t know he’s just such a boring typical person…I DON’T LIKE IT… ............ Those were my reviews through the story. And I'm still on it.I HATE TUCKER.The story had something that only Twilight had had before this, but it got all ruined in between the story where Tucker actually plays a major part.I'm sorry to say the end kind of disappointed me , but I still have hope...after all it's a trilogy...

** spoiler alert ** I devoured this book. I could not put it down, and if I did, it was as if there was a magnetic force pulling me back to it. In fact, I just finished the last page not even a full two minutes ago. I love, love, love all of the characters. Clara is so easy to relate to and I'm so thrilled that I found myself not wanting to jump through the pages and hit her, like I've been wanting to do with the girls in other books. Her relationship with both boys was so real and not crazy, obsessive (note the aforementioned books here). I feel like the book should be divided up into two parts: Christian and Tucker. Throughout the first half, I was so rooting for Christian, then when Tucker came along, he stole my heart right along with Clara's. Sigh. I'm recommending this to every one of my fellow book junkies.

3.5 stars. This story really had the potential of being 4-4.5 stars, but the ending was very lackluster and I feel like too many questions were left unanswered. The whole story you're waiting for Clara's vision to happen and at the end you still know nothing. I get not having all the answers in the first book of a triology, but an author has to at least give me something. The ending gave the idea that the author didn't really know where the story was going either. However, I still enjoyed reading this quite a lot. The characters and sidestory felt like the typical early YA paranormal stories from back in the day, but actually done well.

Original Post: http://lovefantasyscifinovels.blogspo... Unearthly is about a teenage girl called Clara. However, Clara isn't a normal girl, She is part angel. And she has been having vision of her "Purpose" as an angel. This see her and her family (her mum and brother) move Wyoming so she can fulful her purpose. However, this don't go smoothly got Clara and soon she is faced with a terrible choice. Fulfill her purpose or save the boy the she loves? First I want to just mention this books cover! How freaking pretty is that? I mean its stunning. I think its fits really well with the story. Clara all white which is how I picture her when she does her glowing Glory thing. And standing in the forest is massive to plot. The cover just has a very ethereal feel to it. Unearthly is one of those stories that you just lose all sense of time reading. For me, it was the relationship between the characters that I found to entertaining that I just couldnt put this down. Clara is just super cute! She really is a fantastic main character. She is one of those characters that you can imagine being friends with her. When she moves to Wyoming she quickly becomes friends with Wendy and then Angela. Both these characters are total opposite from one another but when reading the story its easy to see why Clara is friends with both. Now the reason Clara moves to Wyoming is to fulfill her purpose as an angel. Her purpose is involves Christian the hottest boy in school and Clara of course like any girl would is drooling over him. They becomes close but Christian has to go away for the summer. Enter Tucker! Wendys brother. oh Tucker! From the moment Clara arrived in Wyoming Tucker and Clara show a dislike to one another. Soon though after Tucker is roped into being Clara's birthday present from Wendy they start to form this undeniable connection. And honestly one of the cutest book couples ever!! I love them. I love Tucker! For me the story plays second to the characters. But what an awesome story line. There is never a dull moment in this book. Its full of supense slowing building up to the tough choice Clara has to make. The romance in this story is one the gradually develops making the story that more believable. What a fantastic, gripping and cute book Unearthly is. Its such a refreshing tale of angels. Angels have completely blown up on the YA market just now and this book its honestly one of my faves. I dont have a bad word to say about this book. Cynthia has created something that is so good and literally leave you begging for more

I liked this book a lot. The voice of the main character, Clara, is clear and enjoyable to follow. In the beginning of the story, Clara knows that she is approaching her destiny, which is finding out her purpose on earth as an angel. She is attracted to two boys - one she dreams about and seems destined to help. The other is more down to earth, literally. Clara is attracted to both boys, but Clara wonders if she will be able to make the choice between them, or will that choice be made for her. There is lots of action in this book, and the romantic triangle between these two characters keep the reader guessing throughout this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one and can't wait to read the next one. The only other book I've read about angels was the Fallen trilogy - which I hated. It put me off the whole genre. Unearthly, however, made me realize what I might have been missing. Excellent.

How do I start this review? I suppose I'll begin with the characters. I liked Clara. I thought she was very much an average teenage girl who is trying to understand her place in the world. Unfortunately for her, she has the added problem of trying to understand where her angel half fits in as well. Her friendships with Angela and Wendy were cute and believable. Tucker was a sweetheart. Then there's Christian. Perfect, flawless Christian. He was the one character that I really couldn't connect with. I think Cynthia Hand built some fantastic characters, but I feel as though Christian was just too perfect for his own good. Maybe this is setting him up for the next book, I wish I knew! In terms of writing, I thought that Unearthly moved along at a very nice pace, and that the writing flowed. I immensely enjoyed the fact that although Hand offers her readers a lot of descriptions, none of them go overboard. She allows you to settle yourself into the scene before taking off again, and I loved that! The best part for me was the romance aspect of the book. I liked that Clara is torn, and that she shows her true colors when she is around Tucker. The inner battle between her angel side and her human side really shows through her time with Tucker, and it makes her so much more deep as a character. This was my favorite part of the book, hands down. If not for Tucker, I would not have been nearly as involved in this book. The ending is what frustrated me most, and I'm not talking about just the last chapter. The whole end of the book spirals slowly and leaves the reader hanging on a string. I'm not one to be upset about cliffhangers. In fact, I rather love them! However this book just didn't feel finished. By the end of Unearthly my mouth was hanging open and I wanted to cry. There were just too many unfinished story lines, so many things that weren't tied up. It felt like someone handed me half a book and walked away. Perhaps it's just me, and it may well be, but I was a little upset about that. I know this is a series, but I still felt a little cheated. I'm being honest when I say that my opinion of this book was probably influenced by the fact that it was so over hyped before I read it, and that I had too high of expectations. That's not to say that Unearthly isn't a good read. It truly is! It's sweet, and well-written. However there are a lot of books about angels out there, and that makes it easy to fall into a set of rules that make every book seem like every other book. I liked Clara, I liked her story, I just didn't feel like it was anything that I hadn't read before. Add in the feeling of an unfinished storyline, and I just couldn't fall in love as much as I wanted to. I do recommend you give it a try though. Unearthly is the type of read that will leave you a little frustrated at the end, but hopefully wanting more.

Blog | Twitter | Instagram I know what you're thinking: JESSICA, YOU'RE LATE. I'm always late. I'll be late to my own funeral, guys, it's fine I swear. BUT, before we get started, the usual statement: you can find this lil review here on Booked J. Ah! Well, I finally read Unearthly after nearly 8 years and it pleasantly surprised me. See, I feel like I kept getting lured in by an interesting premise and a lackluster execution when it comes to books in a similar tone. Thankfully, Unearthly was nowhere near as frustrating as Lauren Kate's Fallen (which is not an intentional dig at the series--it merely wasn't my cup of tea!) and I'm honestly disappointed in myself for hesitating to read it. I think that, to put it plainly, Unearthly was truly everything that Fallen and Hush, Hush could have been. This is perhaps entirely due to Cynthia Hand's magical prose and the way she is able to hook a reader pretty early on during stories. At its core, Unearthly is not unlike its many counterparts. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Both in terms of books about Angels or just the general theme in YA fantasy novels of coming of age while coming into the power of your destiny. What makes Unearthly work is entirely in the way that it is told--the execution of the central story arch is quick and enjoyable. Cynthia Hand is smart in using her time wisely and the development really shows. There are so many good qualities in Unearthly that I'm unable to list in one go. This one didn't take its toll on me in terms of annoyance and frustration; I genuinely liked it and was fully entertained. I liked the central relationships, the main character and more. The way that the story ends leaves you feeling a bit stirred and intrigued--I can't wait to catch up with the sequel and finally get lost in this world once more. Unearthly definitely surprised me and I'm glad I finally gave it a chance, no matter how late to the party I am.

Solid 3 out of 5 stars for this book. I found it to be a little typical for a YA Angel story. However, what didn't sell me was how long it got to the point of her purpose and all the summaries. It was 400 and something pages of just random things happening. The second half of the book was a lot better but it still wasn't appalling. I still want to read the rest of the series to see what happens with Clara, Christian, and Tucker. I wasn't bored with the book, I just don't think it was very solid for a first book in a series.
