Perhaps an unpopular opinion - I honestly didn’t really like this book much until Abigail Tillerman came along. The beginning was so repetitive. It was the kids walking, eating, running out of money, doing something for work, etc. I didn’t connect with Dicey. I do believe she is a very resourceful girl and she stepped up when she had to. I am glad I finished it though, because the ending redeemed at least a little bit of the book. 😬

As I was reading this book, I couldn't stop talking about it. To me, this is the kind of book I would have LOVED to read as a kid. It's full of struggles and adventure and making on your own without parents (which is the kind of books I loved reading back then). I guess I still love those kinds of books today since I loved this story of the Tillerman clan. I can't wait to read the others.
