I really wanted to like this but at 35% in it just reminded me of that Tumblr post that posited the question “is this book scared of me?” At 35% in, even as a novella, I want to feel some sort of investment in the characters and get a feel for their relationships, but aside from establishing some of the tension between Diego and Maddy(? idk it was an audiobook) I felt no real investment or tie to any character. Some editing really could’ve tightened this up.
