This one's my favorite of the original quartet, and it never disappoints. From the magic the four learn, to the exposure we get to Trader culture... I love EVERYTHING in this book. I love the smithing, the mixing of magics, the weaving of magics, the MAP-WEAVING OF MAGICS, the introduction to Trader culture and the respect its given, even as its shortcomings are also acknowledged--the way the four work together and with their teachers, Duke Vedris's persistent presence? Everything.

I mean, this is essentially one of my favorite tropes--ROAD TRIP--but with all my favorite people STILL INVOLVED WITH THE NARRATIVE. (That's the one issue I have with Pierce's third Keladry novel, as a matter of fact--as much as I love Raoul and the King's Own, I miss Kel's interactions with her best friend Neal.)

In my opinion, Daja’s book has been my favorite mostly because Daja is my favorite character. Pierce expanded further into the world that the young mages live in, moving them outside of Winding Circle. I think this move also helped drive the plot as opposed to just relying on the friendship aspect of the circle. 

Pros
•	Daja as a bomb protagonist: her acceptance back into the Trader world I’m dead 
•	World building was enhanced and less focus on character development
•	Easy, quick read

Cons
•	Too much of the plot still revolves around character development
•	Easy solutions to conflicts presented 


Overall I’m giving this book 4/5 stars mostly because I love Daja, and I’m very happy with the way Pierce worked out her name being removed from the books because she did not in any way deserve that!

           I thought this was such a fun read. This was the first book, I read the physical copy for the first time in this series. I really loved Daja's world. I have always been fasciainted by her past and her being viewed as unlucky. I found this to be a super fast pace read. I really loved how he relationships between all the children grow in this novel. I also loved how their magic was changed in this series and super excited to see how his imapcts the future book in this series. I am super excited for briar book and I really want to read it soon!
