Phoebe wants to be special and stop being overlooked when she runs across a Unicorn that is admiring its reflection in water. It offers Phoebe a wish and she asks that it become her best friend. Phoebe brings the unicorn to show and tell, takes her to a birthday party, and rides her to school.
Phoebe and Her Unicorn is a cute graphic novel about a girl who doesn't fit in and how she not only makes friends with a very self important unicorn, but also learns about what it takes to be a friend. Much of the book is a slice of life, detailing many things that the two do together. Also, there is a lot of snarky humor and sarcasm, much of which seems to be directed at adults. While the story does seem to drag in places, overall, Phoebe and Her Unicorn is a very fun and entertaining read.

Dana Simpson continues to be a modern comic genius with her 5th installment of Phoebe and Marigold's adventures. Like the books before it, this is a cute, funny, slice-of-life comic that is appropriate for all ages. It is like a modern day Calvin and Hobbes, but with a little girl and a self-absorbed (but ultimately kind) unicorn as the leads! As an adult, I do sometimes wish the books had more story lines or character development, but these are strong reads for kids that you can read them in any order. They are fun, silly, sometimes touching, but always entertaining.

A super adorable collection of comics revolving around 9 year old Phoebe and her new best friend, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, a snotty, conceited, and amazing unicorn. Funny and poignant, a really great treat. I only wish this was more sequential, but I think it is perfect for the younger set. The Peter S Beagle introduction was very sweet as well, but the constant comparisons to Calvin and Hobbes (and that Phoebe might be BETTER) may be a little over wrought, especially since this is very, very new.

This one was cute. The previous one felt kind of meh for me, but the stories on this volume were a lot more fun. I love the friendship between Marigold and Phoebe (Feebe) and how unabashedly confident Marigold is. We could all use to be a lot more UNICORN. There really isn't a lot to keep saying about these comics other than they are fun and inspiring and girls should read them.
