THIS WAS TOO TIRESOME TO READ - i almost dnf-ed it. 

the short stories had potential to be engaging if not for the author focusing on details in the characters’ lives that didn't really seem to carry much significance, making them boring? idk if that was the intention of this book but regardless of it, this didn't really meet my expectations.

#WatchingWomenAndGirls by @daniellepender is a gorgeous short story collection about the different experiences women face in society today. From class to sexuality to family relationships to power dynamics, this collection shows every day stories in a dazzling new light.

Normally with a short story collection you have some stories you don't necessarily click with as much as others but this whole collection stood strong. Each story transported me into each woman, relating to them in my own way. If I had to pick favourites I'd say Self Portrait, Junction 64 and Look at Me Mummy would be my picks (as they're the ones I underlined most in). However, I enjoyed every single short story.

They are all woven beautifully and tackle a topic related to womanhood that leaves you breathless. Each character you meet you fall in love with and want more time with - yet the short story does stand as a finished piece and you feel satisfied. If you want to write a short story then this collection is one to look at for examples

(I've definitely learnt a lot that I hope to take to my own writing).

If you're looking for a short story collection to get lost in this summer then this is the book for you. Gorgeous writing, powerful topics, and a divine reading experience. I can't wait to read more from Danielle Pender.
