This book had one of the worst endings. I have no idea how Gillian Flynn went from two mediocre novels to GONE GIRL. I'm a tad disappointed that this book was so long and it made me essentially go: that's it? That's what happened? Wtf? SPOILERS BELOW ~~~~~~~ First of all, hiring someone to kill you for insurance money is the dumbest thing. Really? That's gonna help your kids? Suck it up and live with your sister. Make it work. Patty Day was a lazy character and it wasn't even a purposeful lazy it was just - UGH. One of the things that I guessed for who killed the family was the little Devil group: Trey, Diondra, and Ben. Yeah, some others appeared but I had a hunch some kid killed something. I really wanted it to be them killing the family in some twisted way to make Ben "cool" or because they actually worshipped the devil but all I get is Diondra being a psycho about hiding her pregnancy (one of the very very few times I was surprised in this book - it was easy to guess everything) and strangling one kid? And Ben being a coward and just rolling with it? WOW. No wonder the movie flopped. I really wanted Libby to just own it and be pissed and get her brother back I really did. Ben was an annoying character just like Runner was and it was tiresome trying to "clear his name" - he's an accomplice and he needs to pay for letting some deranged teenager kill his sister - wtf? Honestly, this book makes me furious because I read over 400 pages of this shit. I'm glad Gillian Flynn hasn't written a novel since Gone Girl - she should take her sheer dumb luck and cherish the money it gave her because the rest of her works are bad. Two stars simply because Diondra gave me two surprises 1) she was pregnant 2) she tried to kill Libby.
