Katherine Arden reimagines Champ to be a terrifying, ever present, snake creature. Imagine something like freshwater eel and a boa constrictor. Arden's version is nightmare fuel. http://pussreboots.com/blog/2021/comm... Family Utopia Cornfield 33FFFF

The third book in the “Small Spaces” series, “Dark Water” is the PERFECT Halloween read! Ollie, Coco and Brian know that the smiling man will return, it’s just a matter of time. When the trio are forced to join their parents on a day long sailing trip, they are weary that this must be a ploy by the smiling man. After their ship wrecks they know they’re right. There is something sinister on its way that can both thrive in water and land. Is this the end for the kids and their parents? Dark Waters is 198 pages and took me two days to read. I absolutely adore these books and am giving Dark Waters a 4 out of 5! They are truly the best books to read during the spooky Halloween season. I can’t wait until the next book! Thank you, G.P. Putnam’ Sons, for sending me this copy! Here’s to the adventure of finding a novel novel! Lacey

HOW DARE- 😩😩😩

Kinda predictable, but still enjoyable. Am looking forward to the next one.

Dark Waters is the third book in the Small Spaces quartet by Katherine Arden, and I was soooo much looking forward to continued adventures with some of my favorite middle schoolers - Ollie, Coco, and Brian. There were some things I enjoyed, like how some of the parents were actually involved in this adventure (going against the normal kids’ story standard where they have to leave their parents to have adventures). I also did find it genuinely creepy at times. However, the disappointments outweighed a lot of the positive qualities: - the ending was FAR too abrupt - one of my favorite characters spent the whole book nearly completely out of character (partially explained by the end, but still doesn’t seem right) - felt like a filler book for the final book to come So, OF COURSE I am going to read the fourth book and see how this all ties together, simply because I love the characters too much. But, for now, I will just live in my super fond memory of Small Spaces and keep my fingers crossed for a deserving ending for these friends ❤️ 3 ⭐️

This wasn’t as spooky as the second book, but that ending had me on the edge of my seat! 😬😬
