I’m not entirely sure why, but I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as I did the previous two books. The ratings for this one was much higher and it was definitely a good book that I found difficult to put down, but it didn’t match the standard.

The relationship between the main characters were infuriating at times. The Vega/Delph/Petra love triangle just seemed useless and the resolve wasn’t anything interesting and quite cliché. 

The plot of the book wasn’t all that great either. While it was definitely enjoyable, it just seemed like an ongoing plot without being clearly defined. Fortunately, it had plenty of action-packed scenes and mystery to keep one satisfactorily entertained.

The end of the book definitely came as a great surprise to me. It was surprising, emotional and it gave a very nice twist to the story. I will certainly be reading the next book, as I am curious to see how the new Vega turns out. It will have an effect on her relationship with Delph and Petra, as well as the other recruits. I look forward to reading about how far Vega lets the war consume her.

My only hope is that Baldacci doesn’t let this story carry out to a point where it stops becoming intriguing. As someone who buys each book as it is released, that would be a huge disappointment.
