Wiesel employs haunting prose with excellent word choice. The narrative flows smoothly despite the introduction of memories and hallucinations which could have derailed the straight-forward nature of the narrative. I found this story to be poignant, cutting straight to the bone. I kept rooting for a different outcome as I am sure most readers do. Since that outcome did not occur, the book ends on a depressing, hopeless note, something i have noticed is typical of Mr. Wiesel.
Life is harsh and without hope for Mr. Wiesel which is sad because it does not have to be for anyone.
