A different take on the aid systems we see going from western to developing countries today. I don't agree with all of moyo's ideas necessarily but I do think that she provides a good blueprint of what the west should be doing instead of fueling the levels of corruption we see in Africa currently. Was a bit more econ-y then I expected but could slough through it with a bit of work. Wish she talked more on the long-term impacts of BRI but then again, if you're starving and poor, who gaf about democracy.

I loved the idea behind this. However, with a few interesting points, this book only states the obvious problems of direct systematic aid. The analysis is very simple, problematics are not thouroughly explained, it ignores political complexities that go beyond simple tradeoffs and offers just simple solutions justifying that the origin of the problematic is the lack of political will. I do not recommend this book.

Sloppy and overzealous. Also a careless rehash of the highly original economist Peter Bauer. Don't read this, even if you think that foreign aid is usually great (read Easterly or Riddell for accurate disillusionment instead).
