This book began with some connective tissue to the previous book and it was the most character growth Sookie has had since the series began. I loved the little nod to the True Blood series. The “Elvis has left the building” joke was the only reason the character Bubba exists, and I’m okay with that. There were brief moments where small minor plot points happened off-screen but it wasn’t major like in previous books. This book felt like a transition book between books as most of this book was just filler. The filler subplots didn’t interest me, and I could go as far as saying that this book’s storyline wasn’t interesting.

I've given all of the Sookie Stackhouse books 4 stars, because I have really enjoyed them all, but I believe the writing is improving and the story gains more depth with each book. Harris's characterizations are so honest and true, I can't help but want to see what these people will do next. Their interactions have all the depth and reality of real life, even within their fantastic world of supes and humans with extra abilities. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

This book didn't have enough of Eric and the pacing of the book didn't excite me either. Hoping that the next one is better...

Some of you take these books too seriously

I really loved this book

I'm starting to feel like nothing happens in the Sookie series. While I think this book was way better than the previous installment, I really wanted more. I feel like I've already read all about the trouble with weres and fairies. But otherwise, I have to say I'm glad Bill had a good storyline again and I was glad to see a lot of Eric! And keeping with the family theme, it was nice to see Sookie with her little cousin.

Poor Sookie, that girl can never catch a break. I enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading her future adventures. I hope that Sookie and Eric stay together and I hope that there is more of Hunter in the next book.

This one was okay. Not as strong as some of the others in the series.

This is pretty much the worst book in the series. It lacks a good mystery (all the ones in there are weak) and there's just not enough action in it. Usually Charlaine distributes the heavier moments throughout the book, but she didn't do it this time. I also missed the funny Sookie and the great things Charlaine would make her say. I really hope the new one gets better than this.

Oh my, this one was complicated 🙈

Didn't like this as much as the previous books, although I loved Sookie + Eric! The Alexei thing with "showing" his past was very Twilight-esque

As usual, Charlaine Harris 'bats' a 1000 which this continuing saga. Great, fun read.

Listened to this on audiobook. This is another of the weaker volumes in the series, but still entertaining and enjoyable while crocheting Pokemon. *** Relistened to this in March 2021🎧
