           I don't think it's fair for me to rate this book. This is a book that I took off my mother's bookshelf as a happy, easy read after a darker book. She said that this was one of her favorites by Macomber. This is a "beach book" or a Hallmark movie-esque novel. Just a quick, easy read. It took me much longer to read, however, because there was nothing drawing me into it. I think the thing that I disliked the most about this book was the lack of diversity. The four main girls are named Karen, Clare, Liz, and Julia and they all have two or no children. They're middle class, except for Karen who is a struggling actress from a rich family who also substitute teaches. Although these women are different ages, if you read the book without knowing that you wouldn't have caught much of a distinction in maturity. Liz does seem to have some good advice, but that's also because we're told she is the older, wise one. I also didn't like that for both Liz and Karen this was one of those stories where they've decided they don't care to find a partner and then low and behold they find a partner and they end up being perfect. It was just tired. I get the whole, "write what you know", but it was just generic and unoriginal. Saying this isn't really fair though because I didn't read this book for what it was. I think everyone who picks up this book or this author knows that this is a light read. And I bet most of the people who know that, love it, my mother certainly does. She rolled her eyes at what I had to say about the novel. It's not supposed to have some plot twist or lesson. It is what it is, but it's just not my preference.
