Twelve Days of Christmas

Twelve Days of Christmas A Christmas Novel

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Continuing in a festive annual tradition, Debbie Macomber returns with a new original holiday novel full of romance and cheer—and the magical prospect of finding love in the most unexpected places. Friendly and bubbly, Julia Padden likes nearly everyone, but her standoffish neighbor, Cain Maddox, presents a particular challenge. No matter how hard she’s tried to be nice, Cain rudely rebuffs her at every turn, preferring to keep to himself. But when Julia catches Cain stealing her newspaper from the lobby of their apartment building, that’s the last straw. She’s going to break through Cain’s Scrooge-like exterior the only way she knows how: by killing him with kindness. To track her progress, Julia starts a blog called The Twelve Days of Christmas. Her first attempts to humanize Cain are far from successful. Julia brings him homemade Christmas treats and the disagreeable grinch won’t even accept them. Meanwhile, Julie’s blog becomes an online sensation, as an astonishing number of people start following her adventures. Julia continues to find ways to express kindness and, little by little, chips away at Cain’s gruff façade to reveal the caring man underneath. Unbelievably, Julia feels herself falling for Cain—and she suspects that he may be falling for her as well. But as the popularity of her blog continues to grow, Julia must decide if telling Cain the truth about having chronicled their relationship to the rest of the world is worth risking their chance at love. Praise for Twelve Days of Christmas “Another heartwarming seasonal [Debbie] Macomber tale, which fans will find as bright and cozy as a blazing fire on Christmas Eve.”—Kirkus Reviews “Twelve Days of Christmas is a delightful, charming read for anyone looking for an enjoyable Christmas novel. . . . With poignant characters and an enchanting plot, Macomber again burrows into the fragility of human emotions to arrive at a delightful conclusion.”—New York Journal of Books

For a cute romance set in Christmas time this was perfect. My 5 star rating is based on the genre and style of book this is. I wanted fluff and all the Christmas feels and this book did not disappoint. To me listening to this made me feel like I was listening to a Hallmark Christmas movie, which we all know are bad yet so good so we keep watching them. This had the hate to love trope which I guess I am a fan of or maybe I've watched too many Hallmark romances. This definitely gave me some Hating Game by Sally Thorne vibes. The Twelve days part of the title has to do with Julia deciding to kill her neighbor with kindness on the twelve days leading up to Christmas in hopes that he will be less rude and grumpy towards and of course as the days progress they begin to fall for each other, who would have thought. All her progress with her twelve days of kindness are shared on her blog that she is posting in the hopes of getting her dream job position. Her blog inspires others and we get a story or two on how her experiment helps someones relationship with a person in their life just by showing some bit of kindness and I really enjoyed that. During the Christmas season I think too often we get wrapped up in the stress and we loose our cheer and this book was filled with so much fluff that it was just what I needed to listen to. ***(this is obviously insta love) side note, there are elements of alpha male that does go challenged a little but there are moments when the main character Julia seems to enjoy it at first before she mentions something about her not being a prize to own (probably not the exact words). Cain does try to explain his feelings and they do discuss it but I know some people hate that element so I just wanted to mention it. Since this is an adult book it was so refreshing to see her be honest and not keep things in until they blew up and them have actually talk about their feelings and talk out a solution. Anyway I obviously loved this as a holiday read it was short sweet and filled with Christmas.

Well, this one was on the top of a list of the best Christmas romance novels. I guess as a genre they must not be very good. It was fine. It was only a 5 hour read so that was good. I’m still looking forward a super fun, cute Christmas romance!
