I loved this book just as much as I did the first time around. With Constance Gist created a difficult yet empathetic character. I also absolutely loved the historical time period in which she set the story, an atypical period, especially for authors of Christian historical fiction. Gist's historicity also withstands casual evaluation by an amateur historian aka me. I couldn't stop reading even though I knew exactly what was coming and want to read it again.

This book definitely survived round two of the purge from my personal collection.
