This is the fourteenth release of the Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian. I have read the previous books but it has been a while. The events follow up from the novel before this one, however, the way the story was written, it did a good job to remind me of what occurred. It follows different point of views including Brynne, Zael as well as Lucian. Each inclusion was interesting. This story includes an Atlantean male, Zael, as the main character which is something new and exciting within the series; and Brynne who was a product of a lab experiment. Both have an intense attraction for one another, however, she tries her hardest to not act on her feelings because of a secret she holds close to her heart (for fear of rejection). The chemistry between the characters was present and not dull. Fans of the series will read about the appearances of previous characters and find out what has been happening since we last saw them. I do recommend this book for both fan of the series and new readers as well. It's action packed and certainly not lacking in the romance department. Ekizael, or Zael to his few friends and allies, has a tentative alliance with the Breed. His own people are now threatening not only the Breed but also the humans. Once again Atlantis' queen has grown too big for her boots and now Zael must find a way to combat her plans. He may be able to conjure nifty light in his hands and zap himself from place to place but when he meets Brynne, he feels something new and downright frightening - love! Brynne is Breed but she was also experimented on and she feels like a monster. She has now connected with her half-sister but she still feels as though she must hide her true nature - she's been run out of town if they found out her true nature! Zael is intrigued by Brynne from the initial meeting and even follows her back to London - just in time to help when JUSTIS is attacked. I did find it a bit hard to navigate as even though I loved meeting the original Breed and their mates and children, I did feel that Zael and Brynne sometimes got lost in the shuffle. Still a good story just lacked the emphasis on the leads I felt.
