sobrang dugyot. i think there’s something that can be said on how unreliable the internet is (given that this is 2000s/y2k era of internet skepticism) and how that somehow is still present today, but tbh, after the first 5 pages, i thought this was more of a commentary on how pedophilia is blatant and rampant in the community, coloring preferences and “kink”. so much so for transgressive fiction—the question now how much this tries to *emulate* reality. sana hindi though. the castration scene was enough to make my stomach churn wahaha

Whatever

So disturbing and raw. Almost reminds me of All About Lily Chou-Chou and Gregg Araki’s films.

4.5 nothing could've prepared for what i was about to read jesus dennis cooper ur one sick fucker love that from u

maybe i don’t read enough but this was genuinely one of the most disturbing, unsettling, nauseating, and overall horrifying things i’ve read

absolutely disgusting and ?????? but also my favorite book i’ve ever read maybe??????

gatekeeping. y'all just won't get it like i did.

The concept is interesting but the ending just didn't quite land for me. The parts that are meant to be shocking certainly were shocking though. And to give it credit I was fairly invested for the first half ish.

This is one of the most depraved, disgusting books I have ever read with one of the most interesting formats. I loved it. Content warning for fleeting and graphic references to: paraphilia, pedophilia, necrophilia, rape, prostitution, BDSM, and almost every other dark, disgusting kink that you can think of, including snuff films. Set largely on the pages of a website where gay male escorts are reviewed by their clients, and told through the postings, emails, and conversations of several dozen unreliable narrators, The Sluts chronicles the evolution of one young escort's date with a satisfied client into a metafiction of pornography, lies, half-truths, and myth. I loved the unique format of this book. As someone who has used websites designed for facilitating gay sex, I found that the format and writing style depicted the darkly complex carnal and primal energy very authentically. The honest and dark sexual desires of the men depicted here were true to real life and didn’t water itself down for a mainstream audience. I felt like I was reading from an actual gay escorting website. I loved the fleeting narrative bites that we got from each review and post, and I loved how the different perspectives and perceptions of the unreliable narrators changed the angle of the story and perception of Brad as a character. These fleeting posts illustrated how a gay sex website and online gay subculture works, while showing the honest carnal thoughts of men while reminding the reader that these postings were reflective of real men with real dark desires that all have lives and sexual needs and wants, who are all congregating to find sex online. I love how the mystery unfolded through unreliable website postings. I love how the postings started as men craving a vulnerable intimate physical connection and snowballed into others wanting to express their deepest darkest most violent and depraved taboo fantasies. The mentions of snuff film killings were disturbing, and even if some of them allegedly never happened, it is disturbing to know that some of the men on that website still fantasized about it sexually, and the idea that real snuff films really exist, both in the world of this novel and in the real world, gave me chills. Overall, The Sluts is one of the rawest and most authentic looks at the beast that is the Internet that's come up in the past two decades. A world where depraved people across the globe who would never have otherwise become connected find one another, and create a twisted world they can drop in and out of and become whoever they want. I loved the culmination of this dark story and the revelation at the very end. I love how the author depicted the consequences of losing yourself to your deepest darkest carnal desires when you connect yourself to an online world of depraved like-minded instigators. I love how this book snowballed into the darkest, most depraved depiction of homosexual desire. I highly recommend this book for fans of Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite.

i get what he was going for but its just bad and kinda pointless

You know after you finish a book and log it in that you’ve completed it, you get an email from goodreads stating “You have finished “****”, what’s next?” My answer to that email for this book is therapy.
