Oh my goodness. What even was this book. It was incredible. Eve! Eve what is happening? It was so crazy, I needed more from her. But I also loved getting more of Lemons Fresh's perspective and seeing her side of the story and how she slowly begins to understand herself and get more confidence. I also loved seeing more of Cricket and Zekes' perspective, it was so fun and intriguing! I loved the new characters, and loved the plot, and am dying for the next novel!

‘Love is a fantasy, used by humans to convince themselves their procreations are something more than banal biomechanics. We are so much more. What need have we of love?’ Spank my spankables! This series is ‘effing brilliful’! The second book in the Lifelike series picks up few months after the first one ended. Our four musketeers: Ezekiel, Cricket, Lemon and Eve are separated, each following their own path. For Lemon it’s a path of self-discovery, finding out more about her past and her abilities with the help of new friends. Cricket, no longer small and defenceless, is evolving into a weapon, which could be lethal in the wrong hands. Ezekiel, still haunted by his memories of Ana, finds help from an unlikely ally. And Eve, after finally discovering her origins, and her family, gives in to violence. There is a lot of travelling in this story, so we get to explore more places and find out more about the Brotherhood, a cult whose main mission is hunting down deviates (people with superhuman abilities) and killing them. The characters are complex and the world they live in has so much potential. I’m really curious about the next book in the series.

that was a very rude way to end the book. 5 stars as always for being a terrible human being who can write a hell of a story

Disclaimer: I bought this book! Support your authors! Book: Dev1at3 Author: Jay Kristoff Book Series: Lifelike Book 2 Rating: 5/5 Recommended For...: sci-fi, robotics, dystopian Publication Date: June 25, 2019 Genre: YA Sci-Fi Recommended Age: 16+ (sex mention, language, death, cults, gore, violence) Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers Pages: 448 Synopsis: Lemon Fresh has seen better days. After the climactic battle in Babel, she finds herself separated from Ezekiel and Cricket in the wastelands. Lemon’s abilities to manipulate electricity mark her as a deviate, and deadly corporate operatives are hunting her to use as a weapon in the war between BioMaas Incorporated and Daedelus Technologies. Instead, Lemon finds herself falling in with a group of fellow deviates—a band of teenagers with astonishing abilities, led by an enigmatic figure known as the Major, who may hold the secrets to Lemon’s past. Meanwhile, Cricket finds himself in possession of the puritanical Brotherhood, a religious cult set for a head-on collision with the Major and his band. Searching for Lemon, Ezekiel finds a strange ally in an old enemy, and uncovers a plot that may see him reunited with his beloved Ana. And inside Babel, a remade Eve hatches a plan to bring an end to the world. Review: The second book did well to continue the momentum through the first book and in my opinion is much better than the first book. We have POV switches throughout the book, which helps the reader see what’s going on with the fractured group. The book has a lot of character development, especially for Eve, and the world building continued to be marvelous as the group edged further from The Dregs and Babel. However, I felt like the pacing was a bit slow in a few places and the twist was a bit predictable. Verdict: Worth the read!

I didn't like it. I understand this book, some things were cleared, the world was built up a bit more, but ugh... no, not for me. Going to finish the series, just because I like to torture myself this way, but I'm taking a break between the books now.

I was disappointed in this book. That is why it took me literally 3 months to read. I love Jay Kristoff as an author. I LOVED L1FEL1K3 and I loved the Illuminae series but this one seemed to miss the mark. Whilst it had all my favorite characters from the first book, I found this story so hard to follow and (dare I say it) boring. Whilst Lemon and Cricket are great characters individually, and their development was clear, having the story split between both of their journeys was confusing and in some places disengaging. I thought the concept of this story was wonderful (as it was in the first book) and it even served as inspiration for an English Creative Assignment earlier this year, but I think the final story just missed the mark a bit. If there is a third book in the series, I would still read it. In the hopes that it will redeem itself to the success of the first book.

This is such a cool sci-fi series! If you liked Illuminae (by the same author) or books by Marissa Meyer I think you’d like this. The entire plot line with Lemon I did not see coming. But with Eve and Ezekiel I knew how this would end and I was right. Was I still upset? Yes. I also have no clue how book three is going to go. But I’m excited for it.

5 Stars Just a small warning, you probably shouldn’t read this review if you haven’t read LIFEL1K3. Damn it, is there ever going to be a Jay Kristoff book that doesn’t partially destroy me in some way? Because let me tell you guys, this book was W I L D! It's been months (I am a bit slow with the reviews, don’t judge me) and I still find myself thinking about this book. The entire concept is one of my favorites. I mean Fury Road/X-Men/Romeo & Juliet/Bladerunner doesn’t that just scream badass to you? Dev1AT3 kicks off with Lemon Fresh separated from Ezekiel and Cricket after one epic battle. Officially marked as a deviate and running for her life, Lemon teams up with a new mysterious group who have their own special abilities. Meanwhile, Cricket has found himself in possession of a religious cult, The Brotherhood and Ezekiel teams up with an old enemy. With the trio separated, Eve plans to end the world. Dun Dun Duuuun… Okay, I am super crappy at recapping a synopsis. It's hard. I don’t want to spoil the book for you guys. So enjoy this bare-bones review with no spoilers. Picking up where we left off, we are now focused on Lemon Fresh, Cricket, and Ezekiel as they run from Eve and the battle of Babel. The trio gets separated and each plays a part in the overall story. I have said it a million times, the way Jay Kristoff tells a story and weaves it together is breathtaking. I am always so damn impressed with his ability to link it all together. So the plot is off the charts, it's full of action and a lot of laughs. (Hello Cricket and Lemon) The best parts of this story are the characters. I found myself head over heels in love with Lemon Fresh in LIFEL1K3. So I am super happy this series went into the direction where it did. Lemon deserves to be the star of the show as she is full of sass and fiercely loyal and that is truly inspiring. But Cricket, my sweet robotic boy, I love him so damn much. His side story was by far the most intriguing for me as I found it full of the best information. So excited to see where it all goes. Now, if you like sci-fi, read this book. If you like strong independent female leads who are full of sass, then read this book. If you like robots who will melt your heart, then READ THIS BOOK. Well, read the first one first then read this one.

Listened to the audio of this one and enjoyed it a lot.
