I read this because I like the Outlander series but I didn't enjoy this much at all. I've already committed to reading the whole Outlander chronology so I suppose I'll read all the John Grey novels but I won't be happy about it.

this was a boring mystery and a man down bad for someone who doesn’t want him. that’s all it was.

What a pleasant surprise! Well, I guess surprise isn't the right word, because I was expecting this to be great - but it was greater than that - you know? So much murder, so much lust! This side plot novel is similar to Gabaldon's other works but it also has it's own uniqueness that sets it apart. It's kind of 'whodunnit' mystery for a while, mixed with something written by Sarah Waters. It also reminded me a lot of The Luminaries by Elenaor Catton, and that's great because that is my all time favourite book :) brb have to go to www.DianaGabaldon.com and see my Outlander progress.
