This book has the honor of being the first Diana Wynne Jones fantasy I ever read. It's a great time travel adventure of modern day children going to the far future to help a decaying city.

Not my favourite DWJ but still a very entertaining DWJ. The convulted time-travelling shaenanigans were a bit hard to follow at times but I'm sure I wouldn't have had any trouble when I was 10.
(As the author herself once said: "I claim that anyone who can follow Doctor Who can follow absolutely anything. And children are so good at doing this now, and children are used to using their brains.")
