Distorted Alabaster Penitentiary, Volume 1
Reviews

3.5 stars. A bit slow at times but I believe it’s worth the read. I really enjoyed Dash’s character development. And the MM scenes were… chefs kiss

4.5⭐️ Wow…this book was a wild ride! I’ve never read anything like this before. It wasn’t what I expected at all but I was hooked on it. It’s so well written, it really messes with your head and makes your question everything! I did guess the plot twist early on, but I was still shocked when it came because I wasn’t 100% sure and I was questioning myself throughout the whole book. All of the characters were so interesting and I need books for them all😅 Dash and Kemp were something else and I absolutely loved them. Their spicy scenes were unreal too🔥 You seriously need to go in blind with this one and really experience it, but make sure to check the TW before reading!! I still have so many questions and I need to dive into the next book soon and hopefully get some answers!

*Received ARC in exchange for an honest review* Rating 5 Stars! wow ok. I honestly don't even know where to start. This book is top-notch. Absolutely *chef's kiss* Dash and Kemper are exquisite. The only way I can describe them. I don't think I can properly explain how much I love Dash and his POV. I was so paranoid this entire book because I kept looking at the smallest things and trying to guess how it was going to end...and I was wrong. I was WRONG. The twist and the ending were just amazing. I adore Dash. completely. 100%. With everything in my soul (but lowkey so does Darcy lol and I can't wait for his book. ok ok I need every book). I went through such a rollercoaster of emotions in this book and the way Dash's character was written and THE WAY Nyla was able to write the scenes so heartbreakingly beautiful that you HURT for him. I *felt* what Dash was feeling, I hurt with him, I laughed with him, and I just- I was happy when he was happy. This review isn't making any sense at all but it's cause I can't put my feelings into words. I can't. I can't. I love this book and I immediately want to reread it. I can't believe we have to wait for the second book. I don't want to part with Nyla's writing lol *cue sobs* This review is a mess so just listen to this: READ THIS BOOK. READ IT. READ IT. *READ IT*

5 stars ✨ What. The. Fuck. Did I just read?????? Honestly I don’t even know what to say. This book made my heart SQUEEZE. Squeeze with love, pain, hurt, confusion, understanding. I even shed a tear. That’s all I’ll say. It is not for the faint of heart, and is very dark/taboo so you have to read tw but my god this was amazing. The ending was a bit far fetched no doubt but i NEEDED a happy ending for Dasha so I’m okay with it. This Reminded me of a (much) more erotic & contemporary version of Captive Prince with psychological twists.

“Just because we’re broken, it doesn’t mean we need them to put us back together.” Dascha Reznikov. Bank Robber. Eccentric. Is trying to escape his reality. Dash is focused on his end game. He is trying to get to that slice of paradise, where he ultimately seeks true happiness- and is meticulous in his planning to do whatever it takes to get there. Officer Kemper. C/O. Underestimated. He embodies what his job entails, and keeps himself at arms length from others. Kemper alleviates from relationships with others and is there to do a job. Well. Until Dash shows up and he was there to shave his luscious locks off. “Distorted,” by Nyla K is book one in her Alabaster Penitentiary Series. It is an MM dark romance, and is surrounding the unlikely but explosive pairing of our resident prisoner Dash, and his C/O Kemper. I was entranced with Dash’s overtly larger than life personality and no matter his life situation, how he always had one focus in mind. Finding a way to be happy. Kemp was just, my favorite from the beginning. He was in the shadows always lurking, and no matter the situation Dash had himself in, Kemper had Dash top of mind always. Dash was all he SAW. From the moment Dash and Kemper locked eyes, it was game over. They were two imperfectly halves of a broken whole and my heart just ached for them to find happiness in their situation. This is by far Nyla’s BEST work to date, and I am just so in love with this series already. Nyla set this series up so perfectly with her character development and the overall sense of familiarity- I felt like I was on the island with all of them. It was sizzling hot, heart achingly beautiful and broken, and I already need to read it again. This baby is straight to the top of fave reads so far this year and I’m anxious for more. Thank you for giving us Dash and Kemp. Rent free forever.

“He might be the one to settle my inner turmoil, and I think I could do the same for him. Maybe we’re two mangled, jagged pieces who could click together, despite all the fires burning around us.” This is such a hard review to write because there’s no way I can do it justice. I LOVED this book. 5+++ stars, best of 2021, top 5 all time, best Nyla book yet, the limit does not exist on lists this is topping in my mind. Dash and Kemper are amazing deep dark crazy characters and being inside their brains was fascinating. I couldn’t get enough of Dash’s attitude and Kemper’s domineering personality. 10/10 would go to jail to get in on that action. In a non shocking turn of events this blows the lid off the smut scale. It’s scorching hot and it still has the plot to back it up. Twisty dark hot MM is a winning lineup and Nyla has executed it so well!! Read this!

3.5 stars! | I can’t believe it, but I actually called it! I figured out the twist, which was pretty cool. Still, it didn’t take away from the reading experience. My problems with the story are mostly with the length and Dash’s character. The story could have been short in my opinion. I feel like we spend so much time building up the story for nothing. I did like the interactions between Dash and the other inmates, especially Ren. I have a soft spot for him. My complain about Dash’s character is the major 180 he does. I know character growth and development are essential to a story, but when it comes to Dash, there was no definitive moment of when he changed from being so serious to happy? Not that being happy is wrong, but it just felt confusing to see him so depressed and sad and serious one moment then all of a sudden, he’s good and cheery. His personality and attitude towards the end of the story didn’t fit him. I know there are certain scenes and things that happen that could contribute to him changing, but it’s never shown to the reader. It’s more of a flip of a switch. Overalls the story truly is very enjoyable and the twist is well worth the read. I highly suggest reading the author’s note at the end of the book. It gives more insight into the twist of the story.
