I went into this book wanting some action set in an underground where the surface of the planet was the most dangerous place to be. In all fairness, we did get quite a bit of that but not quite in a way that made me truly terrified.

Due to the nature in the way that the book is written, I kept expecting all the monsters and such to be or have metaphorical meanings but they didn't. This book more discusses how different cultures, religions and mini civilisations might spurt up in a world where there's no guidance from the outside world. The main character had absolutely no personality despite the many long pieces of internal monologues. However, I have come out of this book feeling quite satisfied and intrigued by a lot of the hypothetical religions and mini-cultures that Dmitry Glukhovsky explored in this book.

Los supervivientes se han refugiado bajo tierra, en la red de metro, y han creado allí una nueva civilización. Una civilización diferente de todas las que habían existido con anterioridad. Este libro narra las aventuras del joven Artjom, un muchacho que abandona la estación de metro donde ha pasado buena parte de su vida para tratar de proteger a la red entera contra una siniestra amenaza. Porque estos últimos hombres no están solos en el subsuelo...

Metro 2033 es una de las peores obras que he leído. Son más de quinientas páginas tediosas llenas de situaciones inverosímiles, aburridas y mal escritas.

Una catástrofe nuclear asoló al mundo hace aproximadamente 20 años y la humanidad (en este caso la humanidad que habitaba Moscú) se refugió en las estaciones del Metro quedando completamente aisladas del mundo exterior, al punto de no saber si son o no los único sobrevivientes de la catástrofe.

Por cada estación o conjunto de estas (algunas están federadas) los sobrevivientes encontraron una forma de seguir con sus vidas. Existe la Hansa que es una agrupación de estas estaciones las cuales comercian entre si, tomando el nombre de la federación de ciudades alemanas del siglo XII. También están los Rojos, un grupo de estaciones que usan un sistema de gobierno comunista y de gran poder político; junto con estas dos grandes federaciones existen un gran número de estaciones con gobiernos que van desde el nacionalsocialismo hasta testigos de Jehová.

Artyom, el protagonista principal de esta historia, es un joven que vive en una estación que está sufriendo continuos ataques desde el exterior por unos seres humanoides a los cuales llaman Negros. Estos ataques han llamado la atención de Hunter, un stalker. Los stalkers son sobrevivientes que salen a la superficie en busca de lo que les pueda servir, armas, comida, leña, repuestos.

Hunter sale a explorar para averiguar la razón de estos extraños ataques pero le da a Ayrtom una misión. En caso el no vuelva tiene que ir a la Polis, una casi mítica estación en donde podrán prestarle ayuda.

De esta manera comienza la odisea de Ayrtom, vagando por túneles en donde fuerzas extrañas quieren apoderarse de su mente, topándose con nacionalsocialistas que lo capturan y lo quieren matar por considerarlo espía, siendo salvado por un comando revolucionario comunista con el nombre de “Che Guevara”, el revolucionario cubano (sic).

El viaje de Ayrtom se hace insufrible de leer, por lo ilógico de algunos planteamientos, lo acartonado de sus personajes, la mayoría estereotipados y acartonados. Las situaciones llegan a son confusas en algunos casos y en otros predecibles.

El libro me recuerda a los juego de video de horror en donde a cada paso hay personajes de indescriptible fealdad y situaciones en las que se sobrevive corriendo y disparando. Hasta el punto que en una de las escenas finales tiene que luchar con una masa orgánica semiconsciente que controla sus mentes...

Hay mejores maneras de perder el tiempo. No recomiendo esta lectura para nada.
