Great content, but didn’t enjoy the writing style that much

When you're up against the Borg: “Do the Work” is an immensely helpful book by Stephen Pressfield. If you are stuck, and need to read one book, make it this one. If you’ve felt there’s an underlying force resisting your desire to go forward, read this book. If you’ve taken class after class, applied solution after solution, and don’t understand why the resistance is still there, read this book. You are up against the Borg, and it’s the biggest mistake the Borg ever made.

I cannot overstate how much I enjoyed this book. It ranks highly up there with "Lucky or Smart" as books I have on my virtual self of motivation. Pressfield gets right to the point, doesn't waste time explaining why being a in creative rut leads to do all sorts of things we can that are destructive and take us away from what we really want to accomplish. I'd highly recommend it if you're trying to accomplish something and find yourself struggling to jolt yourself out of it. It won't be magic, but it'll help you move forward en route to doing the work.

this is all stuff that i lowkey knew, but reading someone else's phrasing (with LARGE FONT!! and BIZARRE EXAMPLES!!) was surprisingly motivational.

Do the Work is honestly the worst book I’ve ever read. Worse than The Charge. 👎🏽💩

It was 55 ebook pages of new age hippy garbage. Quote: “Bad things happen when we employ rational thought because rational thought comes from the ego“. In this day and age we need all the rational thought we can muster. What the everloving f*ck….

This book was full of Buddhist platitudes and trite motivational rah rah BS. I honestly don’t know why it’s so highly recommended.

This book contains some good nuggets and helpful encouragement for artists, but wrapped in way too many toxically masculine “hurt yourself for your art” rhetoric for my taste. However since it is SOOOO short, it may be worth the skim if you can ignore the chest thumping and take out only the artistic encouragement. YMMV.
