This may be the most boring book I have ever read. in it, nothing happens to anyone save for the very beginning and very end. The characters speak in a stunted, unrealistic style ("you know this?" "You have heard this?") and have absolutely no reason to have a novel written about them. I have read books more poorly executed, but at least they did something. This book is the equivalent of the most boring person at a party telling you about their week walking to the laundromat, then back, then going to sleep, except it takes them the equivalent of 250 pages.

obnoxious ass approach to dialogue oh my god. the book did a nice job of staging these lives post tragedy, each plot point was believable.
specifically enjoyed the mother/daughter relationship between lianne and nina, and martin as well, he was interesting…bare walls. also really enjoyed the ongoing reappearance of the falling man throughout the book, that was a nice touch

DeLillo's prose comes at us in short lavish bursts. Some passages are quiet beautiful in the book, but the overall story crumbles away like paper and falling debris. The ever-shifting viewpoints are also difficult to keep track of. The ending is good, but the second act is where this book falters.

3.5

A person I don't really know told me they couldn't get into White Noise, but ate this up. Worth a try, it's probably bad for my prestige to not know any Don DeLillo I like.
