I read the first Commissario Brunetti last year, and it definitely felt like I knew Brunetti, just by reading about his routine walks in Venice to Questura through canals and calles, his love for his family, his banter with Patta; all written way too well by Donna Leon. The third person perspective allows you to go on walks in the Venice, see the city from Brunetti's perspective. This particular book touched on so many issues - environmental, and how easily we humans exploit each other and the planet - even though this book was written two decades ago, nothing much has changed. 

I have read only two books yet but I'm confident any Brunetti book will read like a peaceful, warm story - which would want me to go to Venice and walk aimlessly in the streets under the shining sun, drinking coffees into bars, and having one or two sandwiches.

Then something very incriminating is discovered in the dead man's flat, something which points to the existence of a high level cabal - and Brunetti becomes convinced that somebody, somewhere, is taking great pains to provide a ready-made solution to the crime.
