Perhaps my expectations were too high but I didn't find this book very interesting or inspiring. I found myself skimming a lot. I had trouble following the timing of the events in reference to the other major events of the world. It also got tiresome that she referenced everyone by there philosophical stance...Joe was an anarchist, etc. The postscript was excellent, though. I could have read that and skipped the rest. I

I'm also reading "The Life You Save May Be Your Own," which talks about Day in a much more interesting way.

Favorite quote that gave me a sense of her sharp wit was her response to a friend who was talking in glowing terms about a writing assignment that she disliked and felt was beneath her. "As a piece of work that presents difficulties, it is worth doing well."
