The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul

This was ok, not up to the standards of the rest of Adams' work in my opinion. Not as funny, not as polished. Whilst his stories are seldom, if ever linear, they are at least complete. For some reason this does not seem to be.

 3.5 stars. The first Dirk Gently novel was perfect. I’m pretty sure I’ve never read this sequel before, so I had seriously high hopes, which the book didn’t quite live up to. There was a lot here I enjoyed - from Kate the Sensible, who doesn’t believe she’s experiencing clearly supernatural events, to Dirk’s fridge wars. But there was a lot of waiting around while eagles were being annoying for no obvious reason, and the Thor storyline never quite landed with me. And Dirk doesn’t have a lot to do. I was missing a lot of Adams’ brilliant wit. But it still turned up, especially whenever Dirk reentered the story. A fun book despite not being as good as the original
