Coupland's "Eleanor Rigby" promised Beatles-inspired melancholy, but instead delivered Nick Hornby-esque quips about Liz's self-proclaimed loneliness. While Liz's backstory hints at depths, she spends more time whining than connecting. The plot falters after a major event, culminating in a rushed ending that feels unearned. Overall, a missed opportunity for the lyrical sadness the title suggested.

I have a soft spot for Douglas Coupland but this book didn't grab me...at first. But once the major plot twist got underway, I started plowing through this book until I was done. Still, this lonely woman just wasn't real enough for me.
