Okay, I have mixed feelings about this novella. I can’t say that I liked it very well and can’t say that I would highly recommend it either. I received a free ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review, so these thoughts are completely my own. But let’s go ahead and jump in.

The pacing was surprisingly written very well. I like how the first page immediately starts the story and we’re sucked in so fast. And even though a big chunk of the beginning didn’t have much dialogue, the descriptions and thoughts of the characters kept the story pretty interesting. Also, it was not slow at all, despite the fact that most of the time was spent in a creepy house for a scavenger hunt. So, the writing was superb.

Even though this novella was only 94 pages, it didn’t feel like it needed to be longer. That was a perfect amount of pages. Although I would’ve liked more background information about the characters to make them feel more personal and for the reader to have some sort of connection with them, the story is literally straight and to the point.

I don’t want this review to be critical, so I won’t indulge on the parts I dislike. Let’s be quick with this. 

Too much magic (it wasn’t like “Dust,”; the “magic” was more so like imagination and the pixie dust. In this novella, it was like magic magic. You know what I mean?), the main girl is possessed by the antagonist, and the *non-descriptive* kiss scenes were a bit pointless.

To conclude this review, I will say that Ms. Seaver did an excellent job writing her debut. I cannot get over how good the writing was! But for me, I think I have to rate this novella 3 stars. I would give it 3.5, but the possessing just really got to me.

However, congratulations Emily for chasing your dreams and making this happen! And thank you for allowing me to read your work and write a review.
