Such a heartwarming yet heartbreaking story. I resonated so much with the literature and the thought process behind such a terrible reality. I really enjoyed this read.

           Efren Divided on audiobook was a wonderful story.Efren still a young schools boy is divided between his choices of being a normal boy and soper-brother and a soper-son in with the hope of getting his mom who got deported back to Mexico.
Regardless this is a middle-grade children fiction, the ending is kept as realistic as it is. 
The Mexican food mentioned in the story is just mouth-watering enough.

This book hit me right in the heart, gave me all the feels. Efrén reminds me so much of the students at my old school, not a particular student but an amalgamation of so many of them.
Cisneros tells the unvarnished story of the life of an American citizen child with undocumented parents. He shows how the parents truly love their children even though they cannot provide the physical possessions to show that. Efrén's journey to navigate life after his Amá gets picked up in an ICE raid lays bare the raw realities that these children deal with. I loved every part of this book, except for Mr. Garrett. I like him but Cisneros did not do quite as well with the execution of his character.

This book just shot to the top of my all-time favorite middle grades books.
