Egghead Or, You Can't Survive on Ideas Alone

Bo Burnham2013
A strange and charming collection of hilariously absurd poetry, writing, and illustration from one of today's most popular young comedians... EGGHEAD: Or, You Can't Survive on Ideas Alone Bo Burnham was a precocious teenager living in his parents' attic when he started posting material on YouTube. 100 million people viewed those videos, turning Bo into an online sensation with a huge and dedicated following. Bo taped his first of two Comedy Central specials four days after his 18th birthday, making him the youngest to do so in the channel's history. Now Bo is a rising star in the comedy world, revered for his utterly original and intelligent voice. And, he can SIIIIIIIIING! In EGGHEAD, Bo brings his brand of brainy, emotional comedy to the page in the form of off-kilter poems, thoughts, and more. Teaming up with his longtime friend, artist, and illustrator Chance Bone, Bo takes on everything from death to farts in this weird book that will make you think, laugh and think, "why did I just laugh?"

I read all of these poems aloud to Michael. I actually enjoyed some of them more when they are spoken aloud. I think this is the sort of thing that is better when shared with others. I have been snapping pictures and sharing because some of the poems are just too great not to share with everyone.

Bo Burnham's Egghead: Or, You Can't Survive on Ideas Alone is a quick read full of carefully thought out words placed nicely on paper (and some pretty spectacular images). If you loved Shel Silverstein when you were 11 years old, you'll love Egghead as an adult. This book has it all. If you're a Bo Burnham fan, you can feel his personality and his comedy in some of the poems. But then, you'll turn the page, and there's something completely different, new. Burnham has this amazing ability to be inspiring, stupid, crude (Yes, I just said the word crude in a POETRY review), playful and witty all at once. If your a poetry fan, you'll understand what this is about. You'll see the satire and the real life connections and the reason behind it all. You'll understand his writing style and appreciate the words and where they appear on the page. And let me just commend Chance Bone on his artwork. Wowzers. That's some real good drawing skills. I will definitely be reading this again, and possibly taking a pen or highlighter to the pages and marking my favourite places, something I only do with poetry books. Enjoy!

It felt like a real piece of Bo, sometimes really ironic, otger times really fun and also caring and emotional at places. If you like Bo Burhnam's comedy, you will love this book even if you don't like poetry books. Also the illustrations were beautiful, I loved them so so much.

I went to school with Bo before he moved to attend an all-boy's high school. He's very talented, but some of these poems were lacking. He should stick to singing and comedy.

More on http://thesecretlifeofbooks.tumblr.com/

Not my kind of humor. Or poetry. I liked the illustrations though. Most of the times they didn't go with the poems.

I needed that. I needed the humor. And I needed those moments when what he wrote made me want to cry for being true. Also Chance Bone is a lovely artist. I enjoyed that short ride.
