Bizarre. Interesting ethical quandary setup in the first 1/3. 

A lot of weird and frankly unnecessary stuff included on the human side. The review differences between men/non-men are quite telling. The bits of worldbuilding I found funny were counterbalanced entirely by the bits of worldbuilding or character work that I found extremely disturbing, unnecessary, and ultimately sort of nonsensical. I won't go more into that as other people have covered those bases.

But I found a lot of contradictions even taking this as a work in the 'EY Rationalist canon' among his other works of fiction. HPMOR's fixation on eradicating death at all costs seems like it flies close to TWC's alien species dedicated to eradicating pain/suffering at all costs...and so...it is underexplained why this would be such a bad thing, in the end. If the eradication of death didn't make humans less human, then...?
