3.5 actual rating. randomly picked up this book at brattle book shop during a brief visit to boston & went into the novel knowing nothing about it. for the most part the novel was entertaining, but literally nothing happens. also if you’re looking for any type of romance this is not the book to go to lmao 🥲 i felt like I didn’t completely understand some of the word choices. it was most likely because of changes in common usage of certain words and phrases from the 1920s to now. it kind of created a barrier between me and complete enjoyment of the book, and it was also weird because I normally don’t have a problem with different vocabulary in classics… I shipped sydney and james because I thought their first meeting was cute and funny but yeah…
